[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
Pnomh Bakeng is one of several artificial hill temples emulating the sacred Mt Meru in Hindu religion & mythology. Pnomh Bakeng is adjacent to the more well known temples of Angkor Wat & Angkor Thom. (built 9th or 10th century ad / ce).

It is reached by a steep climb up several flights of steps, or by elephant 'mahout'. Taken just before sunset, so there is no intense polarised blue sky, & the red bricks & dried yellow grass, are catching the last of the sunlight. Notice the saturation in the bg & shadows. There are several people examining the towers in the background, top right.

More info here:

http://www.cambodianonline.net/angkorwat501.htm

NOTE: there are another 5 flights of steps from the terrace where this was taken, to the plain below. (to the right).

I've added a slight blue cyan tint to the white sky. The temple at right is wearing a hairpiece of dried grass.

Hello dear Chris!

Great shot in lovely details and beautiful vivid colors. Great shot of the ancient design and architecture. Only that the sky is little OE.

TFS, indeed lovely shot!

Best Regards,
Ali

Hello Chris,

I have heard the word 'pnomh' before so researched it to find that it means mountain.
Very interesting notes to accompany the shot.

The pov is good, taking every advantage of the repeating conical structures, which mimic the upper part of the temple on the right.
The inclusion of the person helps us to assess the massive scale of the structure.

For me, the saturation is too intense.
I popped it into PS and with saturation -20% I think it looks great. I didn't post it as a w/s as you would easily be able to do this yourself.

Have a good w/e,
Bev :-)

Hi Chris,

As always, your composition is spot on. The partial wall to the left provides a good anchor, while the raised area leads into the shot nicely. Something didn't look quite right to me with the colors, but I see that this has been discussed and explained.

Have a great weekend.

Werner

Hi Chris,

I joined TL as a result of a web search on Cambodia - I was then planning a trip, someday I will scan a shoebox of my analog Cambodia photos. I don't think I visited Pnomh Bakeng. The ruins depicted are impressive and glow in the early morning light. Cheers.

Bonjour Chris.
Un bon commentaire accompagne cette superbe image prise dans un environnement sauvage et naturel.
Attention à ne pas trop accentuer la netteté, mais aussi garder un peu de douceur dans les traits.

Bonne journée.
Urs

Ciao Chris, great POV on splendid temple, fascinating architecture, wonderful light and colors, very well done my friend, ciao Silvio

Hello Chris,
I like the rugged look the light of the setting sun offered you here. The ruins actually appear as what we would imagine ruins to look like in the jungled area of SE Asia. The strong light offered even stronger color, and with the rock fortification of the temple it is a great shot.
Well Done...
Steve

Hi! Chris

A beautiful temple caught with talent. The polarizing filter is made all the details with precision and enhanced the image of this historical subject
