| [Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note |
Gong Li made her first film in 1987 and made enough money to get her teeth fixed. Now, almost thirty films later, she's one of China's most well-known actors. She also endorses a lot of products, including motorcycles (that what the umbrella is for). She had long resisted Hollywood, saying that she had no desire to simply be a "hua ping" (flower vase, i.e., eye candy). So she held out until "Memoirs of a Geisha" and "Miami Vice". Go figure.
In 1991 or 1992 she made a TV advert for an air conditioner: she walked into an air conditioned room, sat down, and smiled. This was one of the first six-figure endorsements in China, and it caused quite a ruckus. She's still doing it, but now celebrity endorsements are everywhere.

Hi Ted,
I like this interesting shot of the Gong Li umbrella. The colors and detail in the umbrella look nice against the black BG. I enjoy her movies and Memoirs was one of best performances.
Regards,
Kevin
