Working class hero

Another photo from a factory in China. This factory produces different types of clothing.
Most of the employees on these factories come from far away and live at the factory in small apartments
They send most of the money they make home to their families. Their living expenses (food and lodging) are usually covered as part of their salary.
Many of them only get to see their family once a year during Chinese New Year where most factories are closed for 3-4 weeks.

Converted to B/W using Adobe Elements remove colour. Contrast increased and photo resized.

This jumped right out at me, Jens. Fantastic b/w photojournalist/documentary shot that is well composed and has just the right depth of field. We see the lead girl very clearly - her expression and what she is doing. At the same time the background shows us her environment very nicely but doesn;t distreact us. Interesting to see the one girl with a big smile.

(incidentally, the feminine of 'hero' is 'heroine'...sorry!)

Une photo qui pourrait être dans un reportage ! Et on n'entend pas le bruit ! Mais on voit la pression du travail donnée par l'empilement des tissus. Très belle maîtrise de la lumière.

Hello Neighbor !

Got to agree with my predecessors. Superb documentary shot and a great light management coupled with an accurate depth of field for the ultimate composition. Lovely repetion and persepctive with the ladies in line ( despite one was missing that day )
Bravo !

Hi Jens,
This is a good example of an editorial shot, and presentation. Richard mentioned why. Very good shot indeed.

B&W is a wise choice, since the possibly colorful fabrics might be distracting.

Regards,
Ramdan.

Howdy Jens!
Very good idea, good info, original picture.
Regards!

Cool stuff, man
I think it represents of what China really is more than the fotkas with the skyscrapers of Shanghai...

Flawless presentation and the BW conversion just as superb as can be...

Be well, mate

Not an easy life, nor an easy job. There are better jobs out there ... but there are worse ones too.

Terrific use of the prime lens, it did a great job - gave you a superb DOF and a good quick shutter in difficult indoor conditions.
