I was walking through this very poor village and found this man...I pointed to the camera and asked if I could take his picture...he called for his granddaughter and I got this shot...what incredible expressions these people have...

After about 20 minutes walking in the street everyone wanted to see the pictures...through a translator I asked if we could send them the shots but they had no email and no mailing address....

Tomorrow is Jakarta..should be lots to see and hopefully lots of interesting people.

Oh wow!! What a look of pride and love in that grandpas expression! The little girl is very stoic and a little concerned looking .. she likely hasn't seen too many cameras.
Fantastic B&W. Detail is superb!
Trudy

Hi, Roger -
I envy you - this is really quite some adventure you are having. What a wonderful portrait - the look of love and pride on the man's face tells volumes about his emotions regarding his granddaughter. Perfect lighting and exposure, clear and sharp details of the subjects, especially the wrinkles and contours of the man's face. Great iimage - please keep 'em coming.

Hi Roger,
Your right the expressions are wonderful. I like the catch light in the girls eyes and the sharp focus. The detail here is really good.

My wife and I are getting ready for an adoption trip and will spend almost 3 weeks in China. I hope to get a few shot like this one. Very nice work.
Regards,
Kevin

What a wonderful double B&W portrait!
Congratulations and TFS

Hi Roger,

This is a nice double-portrait. One can see the abundant pride as this man looks lovingly on his granddaughter. How sad that there was no-one that you could send the pictures to.

TFS,
Werner

hi Roger

I wish the technology can be applied where we can simply plug a translator piece like a walkman unit and when we speak in our mother language, it gets translated instantly into the language of your visit when you visit a strange place.

Hmmm, maybe I will start selling such a unit and make some good money!

I see your trip to China results in many portraits even B&W. This is a fine 85mm capture with no distraction except 2 faces and maybe 64 years between them to set it apart [why 64? hehe, those days when we have 64k memory in the computers].

Nice work.

tfs, bill

p/s Jarkata? That is even more portrait chance!

Fantastic black backdrop with contrast of twin portraits Roger!

I like the expression on kid's face, so serious and deeply involved somewhere, may be u'd have waited a sec so that the man could open his eyes??? :)

Hi Roger,

it has been a while (too long) since I last visited your gallery. Need to fix my mistake today. :)

If only all the people in the world would be like this grandfather in your image - loving and caring. Such a peaceful atmosphere. Good composition, well cropped, great choice of B/W, very good job here.

Have a nice week,

Stasa

Hi Roger,
Yes, I also like the way that Asian peolpe can show their expressions. You managed to present it very well with this proud grandfather and lovely granddaughter. Needless to say anithing about technical aspect, just a perfect portrait. Thanks for presenting this moment of them!

Kristof
