| An elderly woman in China. She has probably lived her life through the regime under the rule of Mao until now. Do we see what her smile tells us? With the celebration of China 60th anniversary yersterday, how many of these faces with similes like hers, who have lived life from yester years until today are left. I see that she is proud and has dignified self esteem in her expression. She is one of the billion population of China that has a legacy to be proud of. |

She has lived through the regime ... survived its dark years and is now seeing the emergence of China as a growing world power.
Mao seems to enjoy ongoing celebrity as a saviour and in some ways he probably was - in other ways, quite the opposite.
My best wishes for China and a peaceful, prosperous, and hopefully democratic future.
This is great. A flash might have left the shadows a bit harsher, but that's OK.
