Shanghai 上海? pinyin Shànghǎi, in italiano anche Sciangai, situata sul fiume Huangpu presso il delta del Chang Jiang, è la più popolosa città della Cina e una delle città più popolose del mondo, oltre che la seconda municipalità autonoma del paese dopo Chongqing, in quanto la maggior parte della popolazione della municipalità di Chongqing - oltre 30 milioni di abitanti - abita al di fuori della città propriamente detta. Shanghai è vista come capitale economica della Cina. Grazie allo sviluppo dei passati decenni, Shanghai è un centro economico, finanziario, commerciale e delle comunicazioni di primaria importanza della Repubblica Popolare Cinese. Il suo porto, il primo del paese, è uno dei più trafficati al mondo con Singapore e Rotterdam.

Shanghai è una delle quattro municipalità della Repubblica Popolare Cinese a godere dello status di provincia.

In cinese, Shanghai è abbreviata in Hù (滬 o 沪) e Shēn (申); il dittongo Shang - Hai significa letteralmente "sul mare" o anche "verso il mare". L'interpretazione è che la città originariamente era situata sul mare oppure, secondo i locali, che era il punto più alto in cui arrivava il mare.

Famosi sono alcuni soprannomi della città tra i quali: "La Parigi d'oriente", "La regina d'oriente", "Perla d'oriente" (a riconferma di ciò, un'autorevole indagine pone Shanghai tra le metropoli più alla moda d'Asia, la quattordicesima in tutto il mondo [1]) e pure "La puttana d'oriente" (un riferimento alla corruzione, al traffico di droga e alla prostituzione degli anni venti e trenta del secolo scorso).

Hi Nicita,
A beautiful cityscape with wonerful modern architecture.
A symmetric composition of white buildings against a nice soft blue sky.
The old part with writings in Chinese is a colorful corner with a group of people chatting in the most relaxed manner.
Great shot with adequate lighting and good sharpness.
