The Great Wall of China on a steep incline. Taken at Badaling north west of Beijing. The Wall was built to keep the Mongolians out. Beijing was burnt to the ground by Ghenghis Khan in 1215 ad.

From Wikipedia:

"The Great Wall of China (simplified Chinese: 长城; traditional Chinese: 長城; pinyin: Chángchéng; literally "Long wall") or (simplified Chinese: 万里长城; traditional Chinese: 萬里長城; pinyin: Wànlǐ Chángchéng; literally "The long wall of 10,000 Li (里)"[1]) is a series of stone and earthen fortifications in China, built, rebuilt, and maintained between the 5th century BC and the 16th century to protect the northern borders of the Chinese Empire during the rule of successive dynasties. Several walls, referred to as the Great Wall of China, were built since the 5th century BC. The most famous is the wall built between 220 BC and 200 BC by the first Emperor of China, Qin Shi Huang; little of it remains; it was much farther north than the current wall, which was built during the Ming Dynasty.

The Great Wall is the world's longest human-made structure, stretching over approximately 6,400 km (4,000 miles)[2] from Shanhaiguan in the east to Lop Nur in the west, along an arc that roughly delineates the southern edge of Inner Mongolia, but stretches to over 6,700 km (4160 miles) in total.[3] It is also the largest human-made structure ever built in terms of surface area and mass."

It is NOT visible from space, & this was confirmed by Chinese astronauts, just a few years ago.

That only human work that we can see from the moon. We see the use of time! They said that some of it's part are about to fall in dust cause the sealant between brick is slowly bring by the wind! Your axagerated angle please me. It change from the "tourist" shot!
But perhaps it's really incurved as we walk a stair... I notice the horizon look ok :)

Hi Chris,

Muy original imagen y una perspectiva excelente. La composición esta muy lograda y los colores geniales. muy buen trabajo.

Hi Chris. A spectacular and informative photo and notes. Like all who see this huge wall it is simply incredible how the workers achieved such an immense task. TFS. Murray.

Great colours and detail Chris, and an interesting PoV. Like Helen, I thought you'd taken this with the camera at an angle when I first saw it!
Cheers, John.

Building it, long time ago, aswel going up there to picture it.
Good photo you took. The slope is a bonus of it.

Good find Chris - but I guess there are many places where the wall is built on this angle!! Quite funny though!

I thought it WAS visible from space - and there were photos to show for it!! Another Urban Legend? Well, the is moon really made from cheese, isn'tit?

Janice

A very amusing posting, Chris! But where is the horizon really? It looks to me as if the trees in the background are upright, and yet laying stones on an angle like this would be a huge problem!
I give up -- will you please reply??

great composition
