Still waters & Thoughts

Inspired by my dear friend Marcel (NL14078) I decided to post this framed picture with text. The way Marcel frames his photos is stunning and the quality of his pictures aren’t bad either. This whole picture without any frame (this is a cut out) was posted on my TN-site but I chose to remove it and to post this adjusted and framed one. Marcel; thanks for the inspiration and I hope you don’t mind to use you as a well of inspiration regarding framing photos!

This foto I took in the ’Stone Forest’ near Kunming in China. In this rocky area there is a lake with several covered corners and other small coves were you can find this kind of rocks in the very clear and still water.

Geologists say the Stone Forest is a typical example of karsts topography. Approximately 270 million years ago - during the carboniferous period of the Paleozoic era - the region was a vast expanse of sea. Over time, the movements of the lithosphere gradually caused a retreat of the waters and the rise of the limestone landscape. Due to constant erosion by the elements, the area finally developed into the present-day Stone Forest.

Except from the photo itself I have a personal philosophy regarding this view. “Clear and still waters can have deep thoughts.” A variation on; “still waters run deep.” Not that I’m a smart ass but more that I’m a thinker. This view remembers me at fighting difficult times in which I struggled about the meaning of (my) life. Keeping quiet and having deep personal thoughts mostly after reading a good book gave me the strength to pick up my normal life again. Looking at this picture and thinking at my previous thought it gives me a lot of relaxation.

So: help yourself!

PS-talk
- Cropped original copy (refer WS)
- Framed and added text
- No brightness contrast or colour adjustments were made

Checked the text ten thousand times but now after uploading I see the wrongly spelled ‘photopgrapy’ in stead of ‘photography’ Phuwww…that feels not good (I have to stare in the water to feel relaxed again). Refer my WS for the photo with the correct text!

sharpness, compo, frame all are great.. bravo,

Hi Hans
I love the photograph, it's magical. Beautiful textures and reflections, simple, a little forbidding with those murky depths just visible.
My own opinion only - I don't like the frame, I'm not a fan of that kind of thing. But as I say, that's purely subjective.
Great photo

Hoi Hans,
Bekende plaat, maar met het frame stukken mooier. Jammer van het schrijffoutje, maar ik heb het zelde gedaan in m'n laatste foto op TN. Nog steets vindt ik het een super mooie foto.

Cool. What a beautiful shot. Great sharpness to this. You see the reflection of the immensity of it and you also see the depth of it all.
Amazing.

Hi Hans,
Of course, reflections are marvelous, but I'm not fond of the framing, I'm not sure it adds anything to your picture...
Mary

This is so awesome! What a great idea making the whole thing a reflection..I love it! TFS

Hi Hans
Excellent photograph. Description of the place also. As for the frame I would discuss it. At first I thought that you were doing the exhibition of your photographs and it is a poster. Idea for the excellent poster. By the frame of the photograph in so to the frame on TL the effect is so more I am admiring the frame than the photograph. IMHO.
Try with frames farther but more frame than photographs cannot be. (translator)
Anna

exceptionnel composition of this reflections, very good framing!
Congratulations Hans, & thanks for this!

Armel.

Lovely photo Hans. I have problems with typing too :). Good colour and lovely reflections. The framing is well done but perhaps smaller text would suit this image more. TFS,
David
Many thanks for your comment on

Hello Hans,
Beautiful reflection in this calm pond!
Definition is excellent, resulting in good details and fine natural colours...
Reflected light sometimes gives better result compared to the original, as water surface acts as some sort of filter!
Greetings,
Pablo -

Great photo, Hans !
The still and pure water looks fantastic.
With this frame will be perfect for the cover of a photo book.
Very well done, my friend.

stay well

A very interesting composition. Elements above the water are equally expressive as those reflected. Not to mention the framing, it is standalone art.
Inspiring.

Hans,
Great idea of putting the reverse text.
No big deal about the spelling as long as you fix it before you print it.
I like the way that you have portrayed the reflection as the subject. It's unique and that's what gives each one of us a style. Good work,
Scott
