Crossing the Burma/China border with this Emirates Airlines Airbus A340-500 aircraft 2000' above us going from Dubai to Osaka.. Going the same way for many hours, managed to catch a few shots with my little point and shoot camera....
It's always a glorious sight at high altitude, dark blue sky, blinding sunlight and endless visibility above the weather miles below...

The contrails are not 'smoke' but water vapour freezing in average temperatures of -56 celsius. The water cools quickly having left the exhaust of the engines at around 650 celsius.

Photo cropped and the reflections from shooting through the windows cloned out.

I like this picture. May be I would suggest to see a little more sky

What an incredible shot David! Clear and clean as glass! Did your plane have a sunroof?? How did you take this? Really sharp and amazing details!
I'm impressed!

David,

Awesome shot David! In my warped mind, it reminds me of a shark underwater.... ok, ok, I told you I have a "warped" mind! (or too much caffeine today) :D I just can't believe that you were able to get such a terrific shot from the window. Neat.

tfs, Lisa

nice one bro! good and sharp and nice job getting rid of the reflections.

Hi David,
Beautiful composition. An incredible shot. I think you did the right thing by cutting off the sky. Well done.

Great shot David

Wow! The vapour trails here are great. The lighting of the undercarriage add to the icy feeling.

Awesome capture David, well spotted

An awesome sight and you have captured such wonderful detail. I like the panorama format, although I'd be tempted to crop a tad off the right so the plane is not quite so central. Lovely deep blue sky. TFS.
Cheers

Hi David,
Great sight here - could you please supply the sound also? Great note.
Amazing to see the hot air with 650 celsius freezing within just about 40 meters from the engines.
