Self Portrait - Sillhouette

I got the idea for this photo last night when I tried to give my self a hair cut. While cutting my hair I had tremendous difficulties with the hair on the back of the head so I thought a I'd take some photos to see how I was doing.
I thought that backlighting the hair against black would show my hair cutting skills best.

I used to flashes with wireless triggers and the camera was on a tripod with wireless trigger too.
The two flashes was positioned in the top right and top left corners and behind me. The backdrop is a white wall that due to the power of the flashes and the fact that I had snoots on them turned out black.

I think off camera flash or strobes are very interesting and I love all the things you can do with just one or two flashes.

For PP I massaged the curve slightly, added contrast and desaturated a little.

Hope you like it.

Please let me know what comments you might have except if they are about the model.

ISO 100, f/9.0, 1/160

Cheers,
Jens

Just cut my hair as well, as it happens!

This is a very unique self-portrait, Jens. You do manage to come up with such well thought-out images time and time again, it's all very impressive. The lighting here is pretty damned good in my view. Some wee stray hairs maybe need an extra trim at the back ;-)

Really, this shot stands out in terms of lighting, imagination and just overall quality. Excellent. Cannot find a flaw.

Hi Jens,
WOW! I known that you have great skills in photography, I discover the same in haircut! Just a little too close to cranium at the level of your nose! LOL!
Excellent B&W and pose! The light is so effective and makes an aureole around your head looking like ones we can see in a total sun's eclipse! Not easy to do it! I admire those who are willing for experiments!
Despite your warning, I must say that your profil is a good example of the classical rules of Art!
Bravo! Annie

Jens:
Nothing more to say that perfect!!
Congratulations

María José

Excellent!

Hello Jens !

Going back through your gallery , I found this orinigal auto-portrait . Thanks for the useful note explaining well you light set up and camera settings.

Despite the low light conditions, the textures and details are superbly well captured. I can just say . Well done again !
Robert
