[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
I am on the roof of the 2000 year old Joklang temple. Only 120 Tibetan Buddhists monks are allowed to live here under Chinese rule. Before the Chinese invasion, over 50 years ago, and occupation, over 6000 monks lived here. It was a center of great learning, and beauty. Many of the statues of great holy men, and decorative influences are very Indian. Buddha was born a prince in Nepal, in the Terai. It was a land of great swamps, and malaria then. He protected from all that was unpleasant by his family. He left the palace one day to explore, and found death, sickness and misery. He became a saddhu, (a Hindu holy man), leaving all comforts behind. Later he found the "middle path", where you have what you need, without suffering, share all the rest. He traveled to India, where he began to preach his philosophy. Later the religion found it's way to remote Tibet. Wars with invaders ended much of the Buddhism in India, as they were killed off.

Hello Gloria,
The blue sky is eye-catching, the white cloud formations are well exposed with fine details!
A well composed presentation, with the huge complex in the background...
Greetings,
Pablo -

ho gloria,

Appreciate your series of Tibet and the comment you add to your pictures. I was there not to long ago for the second time and have seen the changes due to the presence of more and more Chinese people. Some changes for the good some and some more of the bad ... in 7 years the area around this temple changed to a market place where the pilgrims can find their way but are hindered many time to do their religious activities. it is a shame to see how they are a hindered by some (Chinese sometimes) tourists on the square just before the enterance of the temple ...
the picture ... to dark I think and without the details you would like to see. so for the message ok .. as a picture of lhasa ... try to use photoshop or similar to improve. when you send me the original I can show ...

regards frans
