Chinese night rush….

This picture I took in Xi’an, while first looked around down town the city together with my nice Chinese guide Ma Li Ping . We had a delicious Chinese meal in the Muslim quarter, delicious skewers with meat from unknown origin for me. When I asked Li Ping what it was she murmured something like “cjickesnake” which sounds for me as chicken and snake…I didn’t asked further because it tasted great and exactly knowing what you eat in China might spoil your appetite :) Also I learned here in Xi’an really how to use the chopsticks when eating rice. After half an hour practising I managed to put more rice in my mouth than on my pants ;)

Anyhow, while I carried my tripod with me, I took several pictures at the Xi’an South gate, which is a wonderful building inside the still complete wall around the inner city. The traffic was madness as usual but it gave me the opportunity to make nice nocturnal shots. You even can see the green laser beam behind the wall.

Hope you like it too!

Xi’an

Xi'an (pinyin: Xī'ān; Wade-Giles: Hsi-An; Postal System Pinyin: Sian), is the capital of Shaanxi province in China and a sub-provincial city. Known as one of the most important cities in Chinese history, Xi'an is listed as one of the Four Great Ancient Capitals of China because it has been the capital of 13 dynasties, including the Zhou, Qin, Han, and Tang. Xi'an is also the eastern end of the Silk Road. The city has more than 3,100 years of history. It was called Cháng'ān; literally "Perpetual Peace", in ancient times. Xi'an is the largest and most developed city in the central to north-western part of China and is ranked among the 10 largest cities in China.

The city is surrounded by a well-preserved city wall which was re-constructed in the Ming Dynasty. The area in which Xi'an sits is a relatively flat place, making travel on the wall relatively easy unlike the steep inclines of the Great Wall. It is also plenty wide enough to rent a bicycle and cruise along the wall without ruffling anyone's feathers.

The Mausoleum of Qin Shi Huang and his Terracotta Army are located 40 km to the east of the city's suburbs.

The city's Muslim quarter is home to the Great Mosque of Xi'an. The Big Wild Goose Pagoda and Small Wild Goose Pagoda are both spectacular towers and both are well over 1000 years old and have mostly survived great earthquakes. The former is next to a large square with many fountains that rise and fall in time to music during one of the daily performances. (Text Wikipedia.com)

Hi Hans,
At least you were able to put some rice with the chopsticks IN your mouth. I can't even do that! :D

Kennelijk een prachtige plek om zo'n mooi plaatje te schieten. Die driepoot bewijst zijn dienst maar weer.

Mooie foto, duidelijk en kleurrijk. Verder weer een leuke compositie Hans!

Hi Hans,

I think this is best nocturnal photo I have seen. The lighting is simply so good. It has I think the right softness too. Bravo! TFS.

Konie

Wat een prachtig nightshot Hans de kleuren zijn verbluffend en de vlakverdeling sterk. Ook die stralen in de lucht en de strepen van het verkeer werken erg goed in deze plaat.

You've captured the colours here very well, and I like the combination of movement in the foreground with calmness in the background. Nice photo.

Hello Hans,
It is not easy to choose from your big variety of shots from different place - not at all.
I choose this one because you did a good job transfering this historic building into a modern and chaotic traffic scenery. Nice colours and good contrast. TFS Thomas

Nice architecture, Hans, and a well exposed night shot. I'm glad none of the cars got captured, only their lights... The laser beam looks a bit unearthy, but I like the way it creates a "cone" of green hues to its left.
One nit-pick: why didn't you clone out the bright spot near the right edge?
Anyway, I'm glad this one turned up on tl's portal.
