Colours of China...Gold

My 200th posting on TrekLens!

In the series of my desaturated pictures "Colours of China"; Gold!

Is gold a colour, no in fact it’s a name of a chemical element of a nobel metal. Nevertheless if I tell somebody “It has a gold colour”, he or she (a little doubt :) knows immediately the object has a yellowish orange tone.

And indeed Gold is also a colour according the definition in Wikipedia. Refer the paragraph Gold(colour) below.

The remark: “He has a heart of gold means...” I don’t have to explain that don’t I? So I came to this title after observing the scene. A grandfather carrying his grandchild on his back, father and mother of the baby are at work. This scene is often seen in China; grandparents taking care of their grandchild(ren) during the day. So this nice old man. Sitting relaxed on a small wall in Lijiang smoking his little cigar in a pipe. Carrying a precious load: his grandchild, which is looking fearless into the world with his beautiful bright dark eyes. The golden ring on the finger of grandpa is only the metaphor for the golden cargo he’s carrying on his back….thousand times more precious than his golden ring.

Gold colour

Gold, also called golden is a yellowish orange colour which is a representation of the colour of the element gold.

The web colour gold, which is displayed at right, which is sometimes also called orange-yellow[meaning "orangish yellow" is traditionally referred to as golden in order to distinguish it from the colour metallic gold. The use of gold as a colour term in traditional usage is confined to referring to the colour "metallic gold"

The first recorded use of golden as a colour name in English was in the year 1300 to refer to the element gold and in 1423 to refer to blonde hair

The hex triplet for the digital golden colour is: #FFD700

Gold

Gold (IPA: /gəʊld/) is a chemical element with the symbol Au (from the Latin aurum) and atomic number 79. It is a highly sought-after precious metal which, for many centuries, has been used as money, a store of value and in jewellery. The metal occurs as nuggets or grains in rocks, underground "veins" and in alluvial deposits. It is one of the coinage metals. It is a dense, soft, shiny, yellow metal, and is the most malleable and ductile of the known metals.

Gold forms the basis for a monetary standard used by the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the Bank for International Settlements (BIS). Its ISO currency code is XAU. Modern industrial uses include dentistry and electronics, where gold has traditionally found use because of its good resistance to oxidative corrosion. (Text Wikipedia.com)

First Dear Hans...CONGRATULATIONS on 200 photos in Treklens... well done to you :-)

What a great photo, I like how you have just kept the ring in colour...a truely wonderful portrait of this man and his grandchild.. good composition, and it works well in black and white.

Your framing and presentation is excellent.

TOP MARKS..

Congratulations, Hans! 200 Posts of excellent quality work! Great character shot here! Hard to find a adult chinese without a smoke, haha! (even the gold ring could not distract me from that observation).

Hoi Hans,

--thousand times more precious--
