I took this picture in one of the 466 buildings in Confucius Temple. In China, when they say temple, it does not mean a building but it could be a group of buildings connected by walks and foyers, such is the Confucius Temple or the Forbidden City. The picture shows a small wood bin were people put the discarded part of the incense (like wrappers and used incense), behind it is a big container made of wood with Chinese character carvings. It is filled with sand. Lighted pieces of incense were placed into the sand. The whole place smelled of the incense scent even though it is open above. The opening at the background is the entrance. The incense made a lot of smoke that could trick the camera?s viewfinder. I turned this photo to B&W because the only colors are red on the columns and the dirty green on the roof.
This was taken by Canon EOS Rebel, print was scanned in HP 4570c. Picture was taken June 17, 1998.
