Happy journey Anneke!

Our dear TL member Anneke [Ejtaan] is together with her Rob and neighbours Kees (also known as Henk :) and Hilda are ready and packed for their “takeoff” to China. Tomorrow, Saturday May 12th around 18:00 local time “my” company KLM will bring them to Beijing for a well deserved holiday in the Land-of-many (many NOT money). As you know the Green Baron also travelled through this wonderful country, and you can read his experience here

So I wish Anneke, Rob, Hilda en Kees a happy journey, lots of fun, and I expect tons of beautiful pictures from you Naatje! To get you into the mood I made a China collage for you all, but also or maybe I should write ‘particular’ for my fellah TL-members who stay at home and can enjoy China a bit with this collage of not earlier published China photos from the Baron.

(Top row left to right):
- The Chinese Wall near Beijing
- Portrait of Mao Zedong at the gate of the Forbidden City
- The Jangtzekian River Gorge in the Yunnan
(Middle row)
- Terracotta army in Xi’an
- The Bell tower in Xi’an
- Karst mountains near Guillin
(Bottom row)
- Guanyin temple at Lake Erhai near Dali
- The Panda bear in Chengdu
- The “Elephant” in the Stone Forrest near Kunming

Anneke asked me what route she would fly; in the second WS you can find a 'map' with a typical route from Amsterdam to Beijing, the return trip will be a more southern route.

Regarding the Chinese characters at the bottom, I don’t hope we have Chinese reading TL-members, but it’s crap what is written and has nothing to do with these pictures, I belief something like “Chinese Dictionary’ is written...just for fun.

In the this WS you can find the China Travel Bunch from Zwaag!

In Map:[view] you will find the starpoint of Anneke and the China Bunch: the Beijing international Airport.

Have fun dear fellahs!

China
China (Hanyu Pinyin: Zhōngguó; Tongyong Pinyin: Jhongguó) is a cultural region, ancient civilization, and nation in East Asia. It is one of the world's oldest civilizations, consisting of states and cultures dating back more than six millennia. The stalemate of the last Chinese Civil War has resulted in two political entities using the name China: the People's Republic of China (PRC), administering mainland China, Hong Kong, and Macau; and the Republic of China (ROC), administering Taiwan and its surrounding islands. See Political status of Taiwan.
China is one of the world's oldest continuous civilizations. It has the world's longest continuously used written language system, and is said to be the source of some of the world's great inventions, including the Four Great Inventions of ancient China: paper, the compass, gunpowder, and printing.
China is most commonly called Zhongguo in Mandarin Chinese. The first character zhōng, means "middle" or "central," while guó, means "country" or "state". The term was first translated by missionaries as "Middle Kingdom." However, in ancient times the term referred to the "Central States" along the Yellow River valley and was not associated with any single political entity and gradually evolved to mean the lands under direct imperial rule.

English and many other languages use various forms of the name "China" and the prefix "Sino-" or "Sin-". These forms are thought to be probably derived from the name of the Qin Dynasty that first unified the country (221-206 BCE).

The Qin Dynasty unified the written language in China and gave the supreme ruler of China the title of "Emperor" instead of "King," thus the subsequent Silk Road traders might have identified themselves by that name. (Text: Wikipedia.com)

Good morning Hans

Wonderful compilation here, I am sure this will add to Annekes excitement, I chatted with her briefly this morning and she is at a loss what to do to fill the time before she leaves, I am so excited for her. You have a wonderful selection of images here. I think my favourite has to be the bottom left building. Many thanks for the interesting notes too.

TFS kind regards Helen

Thank you so much Hans!! also on behalf of Rob, Hilda and Kees! I will show this to them a bit later today.

Rob is running around here like an old polar bear.... being nervous and all! He wants me to hurry up and keep him busy coz then he won't have to "think" too much and he can keep calm! CALM????

He's behind me now telling me to get going coz he wants to go and get the groceries........
boy is he nervous!!!!!!!

Well... I'd better go.... try and keep him a bit busy.

Thanks a milion Hans!!
I'll do my very very best to get the BEST China pics in TL! hahhahahaahahha

Well done!

Hi Hans,
Where to begin:
Thanks for the second WS, because I asked Anneke the route she would fly (she told me she would wave when passing Veenendaal) very helpful.
Secondly you are making it even harder on Anneke to leave for she will be getting all sentimental when she sees this great send-off - did you think of that?!
Third: What a wonderful collage from a wonderful country - you are making us all - me anyway - totally jalous.
Man oh man - what did you do.

A great collection of iconic scenes. Presentation is good and the writing is not obtrusive, actually working well with the pictures. A great set of pictures
Thanks for sharing
