[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
.

Within the first hour after our arrival to Yuanyang, we came to the van and tuk-tuk station and encountered a group of talkative touts who demanded too high cost for the trip to terraced fields. We walked away and after crossing the main road, we met a driver who quietly sat in his van looking at us with a smile. With limited Chinese, one friend of our group asked, and he offered (by writing) reasonable price per trip, not per hour. That evening, we've enjoyed a photo op of sunset, and arranged the driver for our next day.

Day after day, we discovered he was always on time, helpful, and knew more places to photograph than the local map suggests. One day, when we thought we "ran out" of new location to visit, he took us to an alley of a remote village. He stopped the van and signaled us to follow him down to a valley where Nhiem took this picture. On bumpy roads to destination, he was excited to participate with us to photographic success rather than worrying about maintenance to his vehicle. My four companions agreed that he is the driver with a photographer view on the beauty of surrounding area.

He always patiently waited for 5 of us to work until total darkness. All of us agreed that he actually contributed a lot to the result of our photo-trip to Yuanyang this year. Finally, we asked him to give us the 200-km ride from Yuanyang to Hekou, so we can cross the border back to Lao Cai, Vietnam.

Before bidding goodbye, at our request, he gave us his info printed on tiny pieces of paper in lieu of his business card. We don't read Chinese, so I kept mine until getting back to Houston. A co-worker translated into Vietnamese for me, and now I knew that the first three words are his name, Bạch Thế Vő. The second line is his tittle, "Driver in Yuanyang Terraced Fields area". His phone number is 138-8759.6415 or 087-3562.4561. If you have chance to come to Yuanyang, I would like to recommend him to you for the same level of service. For your convenience, I have enclosed his name and his business (in Chinese) to the picture. With a print-out of this photo, I am sure you can find him within minutes since Yuanyang town is considered "pocket size".

Please relay my regards to him and give me the update after your visit to this wonderful location. My email address is ngythanh@gmail.com.

Thank you.

Hi Thanh,
I like the attitude of your driver and the sharpness of your photo . This is well done with the reflection in the mirror and you wrote an interseting note . Good job .
Daniel
