Just had a week away on business, visiting Vietnam, China and Hong Kong.

When leaving HK I tried again to shoot some shots that may capture the scale and architecture of the airport...I was inspired to try again after this great shot from Murray.

While in Hong Kong I had the great pleasure of meeting Jens/HeadlessGuy. Jens kindly took time off work to show me some interesting parts of Hong Kong. It was a hot old day and we walked for what seemed like miles - I shall post some of those shots later. Thanks, Jens, for showing me around - very much appreciated! (Jens has some great shots from HK, well worth checking out).

"HK Airport opened for commercial operations in 1998, replacing Kai Tak airport, and is an important regional trans-shipment centre, passenger hub and gateway for destinations in China, East Asia and Southeast Asia. Despite its relatively short history, the airport has won several notable international "Best Airport" awards. In 2001-2005 and 2007, it came first in Skytrax's World Airport Awards.

HKIA operates around-the-clock. It is one of the world's busiest airport in terms of international passenger and cargo movement. In 2006, HKIA handled 44 million passengers and 3.6 million tonnes of cargo. It is the primary hub for Cathay Pacific, Dragonair, Hong Kong Express Airways, Hong Kong Airlines, Oasis Hong Kong Airlines and Air Hong Kong."

I figured you had been somewhere ... welcome back! Cool shot, great use of the fisheye. Good composition. Black and white, shapes over colours, yada yada ... but in all seriousness, you've done a good job with this, and achieved excellent sharpness despite the shutter speed.
Looking forward to the coming shots.

Ahhh so thats where you are/have been..(auto ans from my email.. knew you were someplace :-)

Good POV here Richard, taking in the whole scene with the fisheye lens, makes the photo come alive when you scroll through it.

Hope to see this next year! Its been many years since I was there.

Thanks for sharing cuzzy

Dawn

Well to see how the world we create around us gicve great geométric opportunity... Cause this is all about geometry a shot like that... The fines lines, the complex of the line in a very pleasant way... To present it in B&W is surely the best, even if i didn't see the color way... Cause like that we can play the line focus on some... and others...
I just realise at the end that you use a fisheye shot! You use it wisely!

Hi Richard. Good to see your B&W creations continuing. This photo has strong impact for sure. I like the slightly cury appearance you have created. Good to see and many thanks. Murray.

Hi Richard,
Unless your equipment handicap :-) a superb B&W composition. The contrast is realley striking in this image. The parallel lines creates a superb depth I've the feeling to get "sucked" into this picture, but I could just prevent it by holding tight at the table edge ;-)
Excellent posting my Kilted friend.
Hans

Great capture, Richard !
That airport is gigantic and impressive as the city itself. HKG is a special experiment.
Sylvie

I simply love the symmetry, thanks Richard..

Hi Richard, good trip I hope?
Excellent photo, a really nice abstracty feel to this, love the B&W conversion and love the ceiling of this building, well spotted, and very well framed.

Dean.

Hello Richard:)))
By this fish-eye you have created a special view, very geometric and deep in field - very well done my friend, I like it>
Greetings - Tom
:) later

A super study in Symmetry here Richard! I love the extreme wide angle and the BW works great here, but I wonder what the color version looks like...it may be just as nice!

Linda

Hi Richard,

Great shot of HK Airport here. I love all the geometric patterns that the building and light makes.

Great in bw too.

Give me a shout next time you're in Hong Kong and I'll take you for walk again :D

Cheers,
Jens

Great POV. I like the simetry of the image, I guess it is mostly the ceiling which gives that effect. Nicely taken!

r.

Hi there!
Very interesting, almost abstract type shot.
I love the B&W, I think it works really well for this shot. The patterns and lines are also very eye-catching. Good composition too.
Well done!
PS - thanks for the review of my pic.

the symetry and POV is beautiful here richard :)
perfect use of the fisheye lens :)
i like the tunnel effect from this

koh

I like the modern, surreal feel of this shot, Richard. The vertical compostion works wonderfully. I agree with all the comments posted here -- the B&W is great, as is the 15mm {I like the fishey, but I suspect a UW rectilinear would have worked fine, too).
Mike
P.S. I was looking at your gallery and was surprised there were no shots from Singapore. What gives?

Hi Richard,
That is what I call a photo with a stunning perspective. Your angle gives the idea that this the escalator is going upward while it is completely level. The fisheye gave you this wonderful warp around effect which has the feeling as you are standing in the photo. A great idea to convert the photo to B&W it allows full focus on the lines and contrast.
TFS,
Niek

Hi Richard - Cool architectural presentation. I like the symmetrical 'distribution' of light and dark. And, for once, the fisheye view. Well done and TFS! Cordelia :)))
PS: Thank you for your feedback on my glass image!

I enjoy everything here...the perspective, the graphism of it all, the use of b/w to enhance this, the amazing fine details, it has a futuristic effect and an interesting atmosphere, like out of a dream or a film. I like the note too, very informative. Great work !

Michèle

this is one of your best in my opinion
great symmetrie and lines
very good composed shot
maybe it can be a little sharper
but overall this is great work !
