OK, first things first, I screwed up with this shot - i'd been messing about and had mistakenly left the ISO setting on 1600. I didn't do any noise reduction on this and it doesn't seem too bad...

Anyway, this was taken in the Bird Market when Jens/HeadlessGuy was kindly giving me a tour of that part of Hong Kong.

The Bird Market was a weird, interesting place - lots of birds for sale, along with cages, food etc - but it also seems to be a place where the Hong Konger take their pet birds for walk...in cages...to meet other bird owners and their birds. Fantastic place!

Shot in RAW, jpeg conversion, slight crop, resized and sharpened.

Your focus is amazing - theres so much depth and dimension with the way youve handled it.
And the vibrant colors are perfect for ths parrot - great work!

Hi Richard,

Well, despite mistakenly leaving the ISO to 1600, the photo is still good. Thanks to shooting in RAW, I believe. Nice bokeh. TFS.

Hi Richard,
Great shot, the detail, colour and sharpness in the head is excellent, it is only where the DOF has blurred the image that you notice the noise and even then it's not too bad.
Tfs Andy

Actually, this ain't bad Richard...I did a WS removing the noise. I like the DOF with the focus on his eyes. The colors are nice..and a little noise removal didn't seem to hurt the pic. A mistake we ALL make.....after 40, I can barely remember to take the lens cover off! HAR!!

Hello Richard

Beautiful specimen that you have here, a beautiful macaw of a beautiful color.
I appreciate too much they, are beautiful, of very colored plumage, and until some he has the colors of my flag.
Beautiful close, great capture!

Sérgio

Hi Richard,
Beautiful shot of the parrot, the high ISO does'nt seem a problem. Canon do high ISOs very well. The whole face is pin sharp, and the colours are spot on. On my monitor, it looks like it could have a little more contrast.
He sure looks a character.
Cheers,
Pete.
