Daihatsu Gino Mira 2004 Night Race

This is heavily post-processed.

The original photo is in the workshop. It was shot with a shutter time of 51 seconds on bulb mode. I ran around the car and used my flash gun to light it. I think I fired the flash 4 times on this photo.

For PP work I started out with a quite extreme Raw conversion - a technique I read about on Photoshop Insider. These are the basic settings:
Recovery = 100 - I set this at about 15. Higher value and the flares looked colorized.
Fill Light = 100
Blacks = Drag this slider to the right until photo looks balanced again, because setting the Fill Light at 100 will wash the photo out big time. In my photo I dragged it to 100
Contrast = 100
Clarity = 100
Vibrance = 100
Saturation = Start from left and drag right until desired look

I used radial and motion blur on the wheels to simulate a moving car.

After that I used a couple of layers with difference clouds to create the dust around the car. I used layer masks to add and remove dust.

Dramatic effect - I like it.... Maybe a slightly lighter background would make the car stand out more, (the black windscreen's disappearred into the background)

Incredible effect here, Jens - the work you have put into this image really does impress me...both when taking the shot and in pp. It is far beyond anything I can do and you have written a great explanatory note into the bargain.

TL needs more of this image/note combo - very well done.

Yes, Richard was right about this.. this is awesome pp work and details notes about it, we sure can learn something from you Jen, from one ordinary photo and turn into something with WOW factor. Very nice pp work and yes, thank you very much for writing a details notes for sharing. :D

This is a stunning pic, great pp notes, and looking at the original the pp is outstanding.
Great notes for someone like me where photography is not coming naturally and I really have to think about what I am trying to acheive, and pp is so vast for me.

Absolutley awesome this has gone straight to my favourites! I was immediately drawn to this shot because of the stunning blue colour, once opening the image I was amazed at the PP work and your notes are really fantastic and very helpful

WOW This is GREAT pp work here Jens! I love the car, the color is my favorite and the blurred wheels are awesome! Really nice work! You did a alot of work on this, dropping out the BG and adding all the sparkles.... Looks like a hit and run!

This has to be one of the best post processing shots I've seen. It's great that you included the original shot so that we could see everything that you accomplished. I've very new at post processing (photofiltre since January :D), but seeing what can be accomplished by many of our talented photographers is amazing!

This is a great photo and a great note, Jens! I honestly thought it was moving...;)

Not sure how you got the stars but I liked them. Good coloration and balance for light to dark.

The auto itself fails to impress me but the photo work is awesome.
