Perhaps the longest fort in the World? The Great Wall of China was constructed due to the invasion of China, by Mongol Invaders.

"In 1225 AD Genghis Khan the infamous, arrived with his Mongol Armies at the gates of this Great Wall. On his way to conquest of East and Central Asia and the founding of the Mongol Empire, the Great Khan was temporarily halted in his advance by the Great Wall of China.

The leading Chinese General of Jin Dynasty China which held rule over North China at the Time, had the central Badaling Gate solidly closed with poured Iron to stop the Gate from opening before the Giant Mongol Army. A stale-mate at the Badaling Wall ensued.
The Mongols failed to breech the Wall for Months, until Genghis Khan conceived a plan. Outflanking Fortress JuYongGuan with his horsemen, the Mongols penetrated the Great Wall in a nearby area where it had fallen into ruin and disuse. Not expecting an attack from the rear, the defenses of Fortress JuYongGuan were overrun and the Mongols cleared the Gates of The Great Wall. Riding down from Badaling, the huge Mongol army overwhelmed the Chinese Capital of Dadu (currently Beijing, formerly 'Peking'), raising it to the ground in 1237 AD."

The Mongols under Kublai Khan (grandson of Genghis Khan), went on to attempt an invasion of Japan, too, & were only stopped by typhoons, ('kamikaze' or divine wind), that sank the Mongol Ships.

Shown here is the heavily touristed section of the Wall, at Badaling. The tacky attractions at the front entrance are easily avoided, by walking straight up to the wall, or taking the shuttle minitrain. You can see cable cars & trains & tunnels, either side of the wall in this image.

Hi Chris,
Awesome shot of this very historical place, I hope to visit here one day myself. Nice POV, the people below give a good sense of scale. You've captured the colours well too. Looks like good exercise :).

TFS,
Scott.

Hi Chris,
Thsi is an interesting composition of The Great Wall, I usually see long, horizontal arrangements, so this vertical one was quite special to me for first sight. It is nice that the wall leads our eyes through the picture, sharpness light and details are really perfect here. Proper exposition with nice saturation of colours, too. Well done, TFS!
Greetings,
Kristof

Hello Chris,

This is not a shot for anyone with vertigo!

This was a massive fortification project and your shot clearly illustrates the difficulties of the terrain and by use of the people, shows the incredible scale.
I love how your pov plunges the viewer into the shot!

Kind regards,
Bev :-)

Hi Chris
Excellent wide shot with vertical view! I was there in 2004...That is one of the wonderful manmade straucture in the world. I think it might be constructed before Chengiz khan assailing.
Great details but a little bit more sharpened than usual
I like it. BRAVO
Best wishes
Alireza

Looks like you found a spot relatively free of tourists.

An amazing POV, terrific flow to the composition through the frame, a dizzying sense of height. Great shot.

Wow! Spectacular view from up on that height Chris. Great comp with the view you've chosen, taking our eye right up to the top of the hill. Love the way the wall can be seen on the right, carrying on down the next hill. Great lush, vibrant green colors.
Indeed this must be one of the most amazing things to see in person!! Fantastic Chris.
Have a good weekend.
