Taken on a hazy, smoggy day, in mid May 2007. This is the earthquake memorial, to the 23,938 victims of the 1976 earthquake in TJ alone. At least 240,000 died in the region as a whole. The memorial itself is the pyramid shaped obelisk in the bg. I thought the flowers were symbolic of new life.

"The Tangshan Earthquake, also known as the Great Tangshan Earthquake, was a natural disaster that occurred on July 28, 1976. It is believed to be the largest earthquake of the 20th century by death toll. The epicenter of the earthquake was near Tangshan in Hebei, People's Republic of China, an industrial city with approximately one million inhabitants. The number of deaths initially reported by the Chinese government was 655,000, but has since stated the number to be around 240,000 to 255,000. A further 164,000 people were recorded as being severely injured."

Hi Chris,
I can not imagine an earthquake that affected the lives of so many people. You've done a nice job depicting this memorial. Your flowers are bright and vivid despite the hazy day. Well done and TFS Julie

Hi Chris,

Very colorful shot, the thumbnail really jumps out at you. The POV along the flower beds, through the arches to the door of the memorial is well seen. Spring and flowers are symbolic of new life, a very fitting tribute.

Best regards,
Werner

Hello,

Quel par-terre fleuri, un tapis d'orient, avec ces haies tailles de façon très origniale, l'ensemble est superbe, très belle image.

bravo et amitié

Nicou

Ciao Chris, beautiful composition with wonderful flowers, fantastic colors, very well done, ciao Silvio

Hello Chris,

I think you are right about the flowers and they probably add interest to the shot.
Good pov where the flowers grab the attention and then lead, naturally, via the path and the arched wire tunnel, to the memorial.
We are so lucky in the U.K. in that we have little threat from earthquakes.

Kind regards,
Bev :-)

Flowers are used as symbols in many situations and to express many sentiments. Their life is so fleeting that they are also symbols of our mortality. TFS Nice composition and good note

I remember when this terrible earthquake happened. A nice reminder of all the lives that were lost, both the memorial and your post. An interesting pov. TFS

Hi Chris
I always like this kind of flower decoration used by Chinese people
Very colorful, the details are amazing and the POV is fantastic
Best wishes

Hi Chris,
Interesting shot - plenty of depth and colour. I love the background, sort of looks like background set of a cheesy movie. That must be due to the haze and the effect that has. And there is a sort of lead in to the memorial. Great colour. Nicely done.
Regards,
Phil
