This had the chance to be a striking picture but there are a number of things which I think it fails on:
* you've captured a really uninteresting pose from the monkey - no facial expressions or details present
* the colours are muted and dull
* the faded border effect looks very wishy washy and just accentuates the dull colours
* the sunlight on the trees to the right is overexposed (this accounts for the washed out colours - poor exposure)
Without any exif data its impossible to give real advise on technical improvements, but I would suggest thinking more about your POV and the final presentation (and probably dropping down a couple of f/stops in bright light, at least).
