[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
Good Morning, Folks!

Today, I am going to take you to my home country, India.

This is a picture from the City of Udaipur, located in the western State of India, Rajasthan. Popularly known as "Venice of Asia", this city has got great attention from rest of the world for its marvelous architecture, historical monuments, natural beauty and reserves.

- Keeping the title (of the picture) in mind, and a great connection to my home country, I thought it would be nice to dedicate this work to my Italian friend, Silvio Sorcini with TL id: "silvio2006". I hope he would like it.

- Many thanks for his wonderful contributions to TL in the past. His critiques help improving my pictures since the time I joined TrekLens. During this journey, I learnt a lot in photography and hope to do so in future. I also thank you all for your wonderful cooperation and critiques you gave to my pictures.

- I am sad that Silvio does not contribute pictures to TrekLens anymore, but I am happy that he still actively participates in awarding critiques to the users of TL. Last but not least, I am still optimistic for his return back to TrekLens and hope to see his great work which can help many budding photographers to get an opportunity in order to excel in this field...

Udaipur (उदयपुर), also known as the City of Lakes, is a city, a Municipal Council and the administrative headquarters of, the Udaipur district in the state of Rajasthan in western India. It is the historic capital of the former kingdom of Mewar in Rajputana Agency. Lake Pichola, Fateh Sagar Lake, Udai Sagar and Swaroop Sagar in this city are considered some of the most beautiful lakes in the state.
It is known for its Rajput-era palaces. The Lake Palace, for instance, covers an entire island in the Pichola Lake. Many of the palaces have been converted into luxury hotels.

Climate

The climate of Udaipur is tropical, with the mercury staying between a maximum of 42.3°C and a minimum of 28.8°C during summers. Winters are very cold with the maximum temperature rising to 28.8°C and the minimum dipping to 2.5°C.

History

Udaipur was the capital of the Rajput kingdom of Mewar, ruled by the Sisodia clan. The founder of Udaipur was Rana Udai Singh. The ancient capital of Mewar was Nagda, located on the Banas River northeast of Udaipur. Legend has it that Maharana Udai Singh came upon a hermit while hunting in the foothills of the Aravalli Range. The hermit blessed the king and asked him to build a palace on the spot and it would be well protected. Udai Singh established a residence there. In 1568 the Mughal emperor Akbar captured Chittor, and Udai Singh moved the capital to the site of his residence, which became the city of Udaipur. As the Mughal empire weakened, the Sisodia ranas, and later maharanas, reasserted their independence and recaptured most of Mewar except the fort of Chittor. Udaipur remained the capital of the state, which became a princely state of British India in 1818. After India's Independence in 1947, the Maharaja of Udaipur acceded to the Government of India, and Mewar was integrated into India's Rajasthan state.The city's pride , the 'Lake Palace' was once a prison.

Sisodias, or the Guhilots (Suryavansh),[clarification needed] have ruled the Mewar region since V.S 191,[clarification needed] were against Mughal dominion, and tried to distance themselves from them.[citation needed] Being a mountainous region and unsuitable for heavily armoured Mughal horses, Udaipur remained unmolested from Mughal influence in spite of much pressure. Maharana Fateh Singh of Udaipur was the only royalty who did not attend the Delhi Durbar for King George V in 1911. This fierce sense of independence earned them the highest gun salute in Rajasthan, 19 against the 17 each of Jaipur, Jodhpur, Bundi, Bikaner, Kota and Karauli. Rosita Forbes, who passed this land during the decline of the British Raj, described it as "like no other place on earth".

The land area of the state was 33,543 mi². Its population in 1901 was 14,73,759. It enjoyed an estimated revenue of £20,29,000.

A great capture (a postcard) of this lovely place with this canal and bridge!
Great sharpness and good lighting and a fabulous POV.
It has some connection with Venice - the canal and the bridge! and 'nothing' else!

Nice view Paras and sharp. However the highlights are very over exposed! Are you familiar with the 'histogram' function - either in camera or PS? Basically it tells you if the exposure is about right. If you have clipped edges then the image is over or under exposed. Worth searching it on 'google' if you want to learn more..

Secondly - that solitary bird is distracting and draws the eye towards it. I would personally clone this out.

Nice view, I'd like to visit Rajasthan some time as India is a very photogenic country with literally millions of great photo ops.

i red the critique about the exposure, but i must say that i really like the exposure...the colors are very nice and pleasant to the eye, the reflection is also great...
very nice composition...but maybe a bit more space is needed on the left part...in any case, i really enjoyed this photo, well done my friend;)

Very nice capture of Udaipur and its interesting architecture. I agree with David (whiteknight) that there is some OE in the photo. I'm just learning how to use the histogram function, and his tip is very helpful.

I wholehearteldy agree that Silvio should resume posting his wonderful photography.
