House Sparrows Are Only Chirpers

House sparrows they are chirpers they do not have a song
And by houses on small garden trees and bushes you hear them all day long
The male with grey on head and unders dark throat and wings of brown
'Tis said their ancestors were brought to Australia from parks in London Town.

All day they fly around the backyards from bush to tree to the fence rail
And the female sparrow quieter and plainer looking than the male
They originated in Africa of the weaver family
And they build an untidy ball of dried grass lined with feathers on bush or under house eaves or tree.

Familiar birds to many and familiar birds to me
Around urban parks and human dwellings one them so often see
Around Parkland picnic tables where the picnickers their food and drink enjoy
The sparrows in search of dropped bread crumbs and morsels of food they hop about nearby.

House sparrows are only chirpers but I love them just the same
They feel at home close to human dwellings and they are almost tame
And though you cannot pat them to them they let you get quite near
And all day long in hedgerows their chirpings one can hear.

I waited patiently for a very long time to capture two sparrows as if they were lost in conversation.
