Uttranchal has a distinctive style of architecture, which is to be seen on the one hand in scattered settlements of the higher Himalaya and populated agricultural valleys, and on the other in the temples, naulas-bawaris (water tanks), forts and dharamshalas (inns).

Uttaranchal's unparalleled beauty, its mountains, rivers and glaciers, dense forests, its rich cultural heritage, famous pilgrimage and spiritual center, clean air, and peaceful law and order situation, all combine to make it a tourist destination par excellence.People from across the World, visit UTTARANCHAL in search of PEACE & TRANQUILITY

Most of the old houses of Uttranchal Villages have stone walls, mud floors, slate roofs and patangans (courtyards of gray stone) and their doors, windows and Kholis (main entrance to the house) have intricate figures of Ganesh and other Gods - Goddesses.
The wood carver or carpenter never forgets to make closed nestles for birds. Although brick and concrete houses are now being constructed in hills, very often, depending on the availability of the material, people still prefer to use stones, slate and wood for the construction of their houses.

Hi Manuj,

Excellent.

hi Manuj

I wonder why? The lower right stones are whitish, due to paint job? Or the rest of stones are newer extension work? In any case, you are right to capture this smart house concept! It must be heavy with all the stones facing down flat and stacking up, but then I suppose the base rock foundation is solid support, as the area seems to look rocky and solid.

What I like here is your composition and pov to leave a small portion of the left side, showing the distant grey mountains, which has similar color tone to the house walls. The hanging clouds give a nice mood for this capture. Not sure why, but the vertical of the house seems to tilt a little, a sign of some movement? Or intentional build technique?

Is this high altitude? 2000m? So insulation and cold may pose a challenge.

TFS, bill

Hi Manuj,

Very interesting building you got here, excellent textures and details, I love theo un-even stones, making this building look so special!

Have a nice day,

Cheers,
Sweety

Hi Manuj, the building looks quite unique with the white stones.
The photo could be sharper though Manuj. But I do like to see the mountains in the background - what an interesting place this is,
Janice

Hi Manuj,
I like your entry to the theme. I will submit mine tomorrow.

You're asking what is the performance of Nikon D70. Actually, it arrived only last May 05 from UK. I still have no lens, but , another member of ePhotozine.com volunteered to be my sponsor for the lens.

I'm thankful for God because He supplied the Nikon D70 and the lens using that website and my generous co member over there from Europe.

They said, it is good for a start. It is 6.1 mega pixels DSLR. A cracking camera.

But please dont be deceive by different brand of DSLR.

I believe, give the best camera to an average shooter, he will produced some good shots. But give an average camera to a good shooter, and he will produced amazing pictures like you Manuj.

I'm still reviewing the manual of the camera while waiting for the right time for the lens to come. It take a month Manuj.

Cheers,
Dennis

Hello Manuj,

Ok...i will say something that probably you don't like this time. the light you have here a way too harsh imo. You lost the details in the sky (clouds) and the sky is too cyan IMO. shoothing it with the help of filter can enhance the chance dealing with a harsh light though get it from the natural thing will be better. I think it will look more interesting if you convert this to b/w. It is really nice and I like the way you use the stone fence in FG to lead the view into the building :)

Yan

Note : here convert it to b/w. Just a quick conversion with channel mixer. Opps you didn't allowed WS :D

Hello Manuj,
Great composition and beautiful texture of wall.

Hello Manju,

Stone has always got to be more aesthetically pleasing than concrete! I hope they continue to build houses like this!
The wall makes a good lead in line and the mountains balance the house nicely.
Pleasing textures and shapes, plus soft light, make this a very agreeable shot.

Kind regards,
Bev :-)

Hi Manuj,

Really lovely architecture - and the setting in the Himalayas is even more attractive.

Lovely to hear that a nest is always included.

So glad that you show me yet another part of the world I don't know in this lovely picture.

Thanks!

:)

Hi Manuj,
Yes, I do like it, it looks like a beautiful painting.
Well seen, and well captured.
Pete.

Hi Manuj - Nice subject. Just something doesn't look right wuth the left side of the photo. There's a large blurry bit over the mountains.. Is the background from a different pic? I ask because there's a halo like effect around the left side of the building.
Anyway - it's a nice picture. I'd love to visit just for the tranquility.
Regards
David

Hi Manuj

Great portrayal of some beautiful stone work!
Love the aspect, with the wall leading your eye
into the image, then leaving over the mountains (Himalayas?)

Great shot!

Hi Manuj, This is a very attractyive style of alpine building. It will be warm in winter and cool in summer. Ideal POV to show the style of structure. TFS. Murray.

Traditional is best, and beautiful! I have never been here, another reason to travel to India again!
