Friends with this Portrait i want to share an old poem of a famous poet Constantine P. Cavafy.

"AN OLD MAN"

And in the scorn of his miserable old age
he ponders how little he enjoyed the years
when he had strength, and the power of the word, and good looks.

He knows he has aged much; he feels it, he sees it.
And yet the time he was young seems
like yesterday. How short a time, how short a time.

And he ponders how Prudence deceived him;
and how he always trusted her -- what a folly! --
that liar who said: "Tomorrow. There is ample time."

He remembers the impulses he curbed; and how much
joy he sacrificed. Every lost chance
now mocks his senseless wisdom.

..But from so much thinking and remembering
the old man gets dizzy. And falls asleep
bent over the café table.

Constantine P. Cavafy (1897)

Manuj,
What an amazing portrait!!
I like the bw....the wrinkles enhance the feeling of gloom.
The compo is top notch!!
the tiny bits of jewelery go on to highlight how little material things matter in the face of the ultimate truth that is death!

Hi Manuj - to be honest, although the pp work is clever, I think this portrait would have greater impact if totally in b/w.

The pose, expression and lines on the face and arm are well detailed. This is an emotional, moving shot - very powerful I think.

Salam Manuj bahaijaan,
What a great B&W portrait,Sharpness, light are superb.TFS.

Hello Manuj!
Great work! Wonderful picture. No words. Good luck!

All I can say is "An incredible image"....thankyou

Hello Manju,

What a powerful and emotion provoking image!
I can read this shot on so many different levels. Certainly we are frail but gold lasts forever, therefore, it keeps its colour!

Photographs which make people think beyond the images portrayed are powerful tools!
Well done!

Kind regards,
Bev :-)

Great result! Lovely tones, contrast and textures! congrats!

Hi Manuj,

Hi Manuj Mehta,

This portrait is full of emotion. The woman has her beauty, pride, and confidence no matter her age. The post processing work for the theme is nice, but I am a bit distracted by the gold being highlighted in this photo. Nonetheless, it's a terrific photo that speaks volumes about the elderly. thanks for sharing, Lisa

excellent portrait , great B&W

Your Desaturation photo on the older lady went great with your title of Golden youth as you brought out the color of her gold jewelery. The photo shows her age well.

Hello Manuj,

This is perfect for the theme desaturation image.
Cheers
Dennis

What a strong portrait Manuj!!! its amazingly impressive! Do you personally know this woman?
You have done a gorgeous pp work too, keeping just the gold, its beautiful! well done
LuDivine

Hello Manuj, This is certainly a thought provoking picture and one full of contrasts. For example, the fine soft fabric beside the well worn and wrinkled skin. I like the jewellery she wears which says much about her attitude to life but then again there is sadness and weariness reflected in her eyes.
Thank you for sharing this portrait.
Regards, Pat.

Strong and stunning scene,Great detail in her face that made an emotional look and well emphasis to matched title.Good work,TFS.

Great artwork and experimentation. Well framed. Very good quality too.
Best wishes,

It's a sad image Manuj. And the poem goes well with it.
The photo looks a bit unsharp - or maybe over-sharpened.
But the golden bangles and earring certainly stand out well

HI Manuj
I think you have outdone yourself with this one, its absolutely fantastic.
To see this lady still wanting to look stylish, while waiting for death to take her to a better world is breathtaking.
Excellent portrait with the light higliting the wrinkles caused by time, you have made this a very emotional capture.

Hello Manuj

Hello, Manuj.

What a fabulous portrait! A wonderful capture of this old lady who seems so tired of life. And yet you show her with those beautiful gold trinkets which she has probably had since her youth.

Very well presented and very good processing work.

Excellent!

Best Wishes,

John.

Awesome portrait. Full of emotion and the fact that gold never tarnishes or ages is a poignant juxtaposition against the frailty of the human condition. Excellent work. Paul.

Hi Manuj,
This is a great portrait and I know that you have the gold in colour for the theme and it works well for that purpose, I think though that this in full black & white would be better.
Great work
Well done
Regards Andy

Grim ... but real. It is reflective of so many sights I saw recently in the Philippines. People who seem to simply be waiting for life to pass.

Good details and excellent light.

Well captured

Hi Manuj, You really present some very fine images. This is very powerful. So many years so many experiences. Wonderful work. TFS. Murray.

Hi Manuj,
Excellent work of art. The old lady's detailed wrinkles is truly telling her GOLDEN age. And the GOLD colored earing and bangles has strengthen the message you are delivering. Great contribution for the theme.

Namastey Manuj
i like the portrait of this lady, very fine details and Point of view, the way you have described her golden youth is remarkable, it has become a defination for artistic photography.
sharp and good lighting is the combination of the sucess of this portrait. her wrinkels has lots of stories in it, her golden jewlery tell us that the luxrious and levish life she has spent.
you have done a brilliant job, you have captured a remarkable mood which in my openioin will never ever be shown for ages.
Hats off to you.

hi Manuj

Very strong portrait feature of sign of old age and the painful passing days of the weak, yet at the same time it is a disturbing image to look at. A sense of despair and hallow in the eyes.

tfs, bill

Some marvelous work here, the selective colour effect is the least of interest I think, more the woman, and the way she's been presented, heavy contrasts and tones are perfect here.

Well done
Tom

Excellent work Manuj. Nice dark tones and textures in the B&W and the gold delicately highlighted. Well done,

Hello Manju !

I have to write on this one . First I love the model, the POV, the composition and expression captured.Like Richard said it is indeed a powerful portrait.

What I like a little less, is the sharpeness. It seems to me the photo was a bit out of focus , and you over sharpened it to compensate. The result photo is somehow less powerful than it could and deserve to be. This is just my humble opinion. Despite six members already choose it as a favorite. But again , a lovely subject , well presented.

I believe it could be even better. Let me give you links , to show you what I mean: Shutterbill portrait & Shirley from Sticks

Keep on shooting, you certainly have very interesting subjects.
Cheers !
Robert

PS No offense here . Even if you have collected 122 points on this one, which is more than any of my own images, I am just expressing my opinion of the photo. Nothing else (*_^)

What an wonderful portrait!!Bravo Manuj !
Excellent work.I like it.
