“The shoe that fits one person pinches another; there is no recipe for living that fits all cases”

hello friends
this is ashoe maker sitting near the famous architecture "Lal Quila" (red fort).
as you can see at your left there is a stone wall, the written words are about "Shahjhanabad".

Old Delhi, walled city of Delhi, was founded as Shahjahanabad by Indian Emperor Shahjahan in 1639. It remained the capital of the Mughals until the end of the Mughal dynasty. It was once filled with mansions of nobles and members of the royal court, along with elegant mosques and gardens. Today, despite having become extremely crowded and dilapidated, it still serves as the symbolic heart of metropolitan Delhi.

Ps~ its an unpronounceable name for some as my friend "Kristof" suggested "Shahjahanabad"! i break this word then you may understand its meaning. "ShahJhan" was the name of a mughal king-- which means king of the world and now "abad" (developed) so the whole word means, a place developed by king Shahjahan.
Today we don't call it Shahjahanabad, we call it Old Delhi

i hope you'll like this shot

regards
Manuj Mehta

Hello Manuj
Yes i like this shot :)
Particularly this time the light on his face is perfect, nice B&W tones and good sharpness.

might have included the complete slippers in the frame??? :)

Good choice of B/W. I like the mood of this picture, the waiting of this man, patient, almost resigned. A shoemaker, but without shoes. Good balance of the light.
Best regards
John

hello manuj,
I like very much how you distributed the space and the elements in this photo - everything seems to be exactly where it belongs.
you always manage to sum up an idea, a thought with a "simple" portrait - simple as in accessible to all, visually and intellectually. your photography is highly educational, in the best possible sense of the term =)

dear Manuj mehta,
he lives having delightful hope or not, I cannot know,
but his eyes look more keen than travelers in every city for sightseeing...
also I don't know the relation letters on the stone wall and his living shop,
but it makes humorous contrast, like in the old cinema of C. Chaplin.
thank you for your excellent shot,
Akihisa

Salut Manuj.

Des petits métiers des rue qui méritent aussi leur mise en valeur et tu fais très bien de nous les présenter.
Félicitation.
Bonne journée.

Hello my friend..

I am late again:)
this is so interesting, I am looking at this image for a while now, lots of details, elements that portray the daily life scene and your note...first the look of patience, the spirit of it, his bare feet!!! that frown, I must say you always manage perfectly to transmit their feelings with each portrait differently, as if the photo is speaking out loud... good choice of B/W and top quality post again...

best regards Manuj

Hi Manuj, Another fine street portrait for your vast gallery. I like the way we seem to be able to see the character of your subjects. This man would appear to be good at his craft and he survives through making and reparing shoes for the passing people. TFS. Murray.

ah the shoe repairman.. i saw them in Amazing Race Asia.. :) nice work in black n white, Manuj.. a lovely shot of the daily scene in your country.. good one..
