Kolkata is a strange city. Smack in the middle of Downtown Kolkata, there is a large pond known as the 'Lal Dighi' - the Red Lake. On its northern side a large edifice named the Writers' Building houses the seat of the state government.
Many homeless people used to live on its banks. Now beautification and security drives have got rid of these unfortunates.
There I saw this boy playing upon what he thinks is a flute. Pan of Greek myths drove people and mythical beings crazy with his magic flute. Here the supposed flute player himself is beyond reason.

The image has been scanned from a very old negative taken with a Pentax Spotmatic II and a Super Takumar 85 mm. Cropped and contrast pushed up. Spotted with the clone and smudge tool in PhotoFiltre.

Beautiful picture and very touching, Salil. The pose of the boy and his concentration on his "flute" is just great. The B&W enhances the mood here. Excellent!

Hi, Salil.
Well-composed picture. Boy’s pose is very poetic and touching at the same time.
Best wishes, Alla.

i like the grainy look here salil :)
well composed shot, looks like an interesting subject :) did you take a few more photos?

Salil,
An image like this makes me wonder if the real world where we live every day is actually "real". This person seems so convince of his music... I guess his real world differs a lot from the real world of most of those people that looked at him.
Great shot!
Angela

I missed this one. Excellent B&W. The bit of grain gives a very arty effect that suits the subject very well.
