Hi Roger - i'll start by apologising for only going with a "1" on this...

I think there are many good points - the quality of light, the sharpness on the leading eye and the capture of the expression, for example.

But, I have a couple of niggles, sorry. There's just something that doesn't feel right about the angle you'd taken this from - when I look at the image I feel like i'm on a level with his mouth or nose, not his eyes. Maybe that's down to the crop - and perhaps a crop to just above his collar button would help. Possibly also the DOF is just a tad too shallow. His right eye is fairly large in the frame, but out of focus - there's something about that side of his face that doesn't sit quite right.

Sorry, I'm being quite strict as this is far better than most portraits on TL, but at the same time the couple of niggles do bother me...

I'm sure others will disagree :-)

Hello Roger

Very interesting face. i like the tight frame :)
Very good light and BG, just beautiful.

Well, IMHO I feel comfortable with the POV here but as far as DOF, i agree with R.J. f/4 might have done a very very decent job for u.
Such portraits u must keep the complete face intact (sharp/in-focus)

Regards,
JZM

hello Roger,
Wow! he certainly has a very interesting face. He looks like a film baddie....that gaze chills the bones! Perfectly exposed and he is facing the camera in just the right way.The black background enhances the feeling of menace. I am surprised that the interest has not been higher on this one.
regards,
Bev
