Another picture with IR shots. I just like the moment i capture and about the tonal, just do swap channel and adjust color balance.

In WS, I post an example of the original color of IR shot. without being modified with channel swap

Camera : Nikon D50
Lens : Nikkor 18-70mm
Filter : UV and modified IR inside
Shutter speed : 1/60
F : 7.1

Hi Yan

I didn't want to just ignore this photo, but in all honesty I don't understand IR shots. Maybe I'm missing something? I have seen IR shots before, and I've seen "fake" IR shots where a colour or PP treatment is used to make it look like IR - but I fail to see why IR shots are impressive.

Through my (untrained?) eyes this just looks like a colour photo that has been desaturated. The very deep field of focus - and the sharp focus of even very distant objects - adds conflicts to the shot in my view, I would rather see your subjects, the kids playing soccer, separated from the background by a shallower DOF.

Sorry friend - you know I love your work, your portrait work is amazing to me, but I just don't get this one. Maybe you can explain it?

Rew

Hello Yan, I prefer the photo in the ws because I find this image a little bland. The other one makes it for me.
I understand your explanation about white balance and the effect in IR shots.
The kids would be emphasized if we didn't see the bg imho because it's a good action shot. The kids are having fun playing soccer.

Take care, Yan :)

hi yan , again neat effect, almost nuclear though! a bomb didnt just go off to the left did it? only joking but it just has that feel, this effect would look cool on a landscape image too,

Hi Yan,

Thank you for your details explaination about IR shot, I understand what you mean now... I love to play with Cokin filter, but only those girly type...:P you know.. like diffuse, soft focus and so on, but now with my new camera... it won't fit.. but I am not worry too much about it, after all.. there are lots of filter provide by software now a day.

It is intersting to see the end result thou.. very effective and sure look aging.. :D Nice composition too.

Have a nice day,

Cheers,
Sweety
