[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
This is the one and only cat shot I'll ever post - tigers don't count ;-)

Took this last night, my last evening in Bali before returning to Singapore today. The first three nights were pretty poor weatherwise, complete cloud cover so no chance of any decent evening/sunset shots.

There were two small catamarans on the beach, a great photographic opportunity so I was pretty relieved/delighted when last night was fairly clear.

For this shot, the sun was setting behind me and there was a lovely golden/pink hue to the sky. But I wanted to experiment and play around a wee bit in Photoshop so the colours here are not as taken. I quite like the atmosphere of the end result.

There is some noise in the shot - I like it, so I left it there.

ISO 320, f5.0, 1/125

Converted to Greyscale then fiddled with RGB levels to get a slightly golden glow to the image. Jpegged, resized, sharpened.

Another example of the clarity you achieve in your images Richard. I really like this cat and how you have composed the shot. The sky is beautiful and I love the way the pink shades make it so soft. Good experiment, indeed.
Warm Regards

Hi Richard,
Nice shot and PP work, I was not sure about the colours to start with but after looking a couple of time I think they work well, I like the composition of the shot, it makes you just want to push the cat in the water and go for a sail, maybe 600 pixels high would have been better but thats just my personal preference to fit the whole shot on screen.
Well done
Regards Andy

Hi Richard
Nice cat. Don't have to feed or clean up after this one. Like the Photoshop tone you have added. Sky is maintained as a dominant element.

Dan

A fine shot, the toned treatment suits it well. You are right, this is better than usually pet shots can be.

Not bad, Richard! You do better with shots where you are closer to the subject, as here and with your wee ones. The sky adds extra life and visual appeal in this shot, and looks good with the pp mood. Good placement of the cat in the composition, and the horizon is almost level. Well done.

Hi Richard, A classic cat on the beach scene. Your POV is ideal showing the stern and the sides of the craft. The colours are supreme, and make a strong statement of relaxation and pleasant ambiance. TFS. Murray.

I love sunsets and evenings like this! The colors are astounding! I sat down Saturday night and watched the sun drop all the way, past the horizon, past the glow, past the orange and blue.....down to nothing! It was stunning...I have photos! I'll share soon!
This is SUPER sharp, very nice details here, even in the low light! And of course, the MOST important thing..you got the horizon line straight! A pet peeve of mine! Great shot Richard!

Hi Richard,
Yes Richard, sometimes grain/noise added drama to a shot, especially with 'moody' light and sepia tone like this. Wonderful composition and great tone management.

Ramdan.

Great shot of a lone sailboat. I wish I had one like this. Nice shot, tfs.

Hi Richard,

I like the colour and the differnt tones and, looks like a nice place to be.

Cheers
Tom

Why so much words for such a snapshot. Too dark too red and very unnatural!
