[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
Walking in the streets in Malang saw this scene. At times like this it would have been better being in auto, this was taken at 800 ISO , 1/500 sec and f4, I'm sure the camera would have done better. No time to change any settings at these fleeting moments.
Cropped a little, increased Dynamic range in Velvia Vision.
Coloured version in workshop

Hi Nico !
interesting rustic character. Nice composition - though I'm not a fan of this frame.. and I think a clean simple frame will have helped this even more - but's that's just my personal preference/thought.

You photograph itself is lovely :-)
Well done. Best regards, Daniel

yes... better in auto :)...this is a very nice moment Nico. And you capture it good.

Hi Nico,

I love this image. The feel of it seems to capture the innocence and beauty of life, and the colour gives a warm feeling.

However, I think the bottom part could have been cropped out a little more in order to not distract from the roof, or upper part of the image. I found it a little visually disappointing to have looked all the way down only to find little information.

Overall, I think the image is well taken, with an interesting peek into a different culture, a different life.

Cheers,
Joel

I think the settings work fine here, Nico. The child's expression really does contrast superbly with the grittiness of the rest of the image. Similar feel to Yan's shot - very powerful imagery.

hi nico :)

the thing is, i personally like photos where you dont depend on the camera...

i am sure that the 800 iso, f/4 and shutter speed will stay in your memory whenever you look at this image or think of it :)

thats what makes photos like these all the more special to me :) this photo has something to do with you, the photographer, primarily.. while the camera holds secondary importance :)

this is an amazing black and white photograph :) i love the framing, the contrast, the tones :) truly impressive and equally as inspiring :)

thanks for sharing :)

Sweet shot Nico

Black and White was a perfect choice of color space. The textures in the wall and window are a nice contrast to the young one in the window. Good work!

wonderful capture.
regards.

Hi Nico,

Yeah, velvia vision does wonders!! I didn't consider using it when going for B/W, but I have to say that it works well off course, since that win on dynamic range will also be visible in B/W!
I like the open space. I might have cropped even a bit more to the top. But I also like it as it is! A bit too much top in the main post and in the workshop, the black line of the frame is a bit heavy to me. Just a feeling ;-).

Have a good weekend!
Dennis
And both the workshop and main posting work for me.

Howdy Nico!
Amazing scene. Amazing POV. Wonderful composition.
Great effect.
TFS!
