Morning Richard,
a very great shot, perfectly titled & interesting note! the pic tells not only about 'the end' of your visit but also 'the end' of the sea tide, 'the end' of the surfing and the sunset gives the literal definition of 'the end' of the day.
perfect pov & nice composition. you indeed took up the challenge of breaking away from taking the 'standard tourist shot'
thumbs up!
TFS

Hmmm. Really trying hard to decide what I think about this one. In all honesty I don't think it's one of your best, and I can possibly understand your frustration.
Technically it's ok. I say ok because I find the contrast a little hard, I struggle with the glare of that reflected sun in the centre of the shot, and my gut tells me that the slightly skewed treeline towards the upper 1/3rd of the shot should really be level.
The depth of field is good, the placement of your surfers is good ... I don't know if the conversion to b&w is good, but that probably just comes down to opinion.
Sorry I can't reach a consensus with your other critics, but you have - and do - wow me far more than this on a regular basis.
Guess I owe you a consoling beer after this. ;)

To me this one is full of 'mood'. End of the day, b&w, tired.... I like it. Just how I feel at the beach when the sun is setting. I find this very creative, so don't be so hard on yourself :)

Hi Richard,
Nice work, I like the silhouettes of the people and the trees and how you have split the shot with the water, the small pools and ripples in the sand are a nice leadin to the shot, I have to say I would have been happier to see the treeline where it joins the beach straightened.

Stunning Rich, even great how the diagonal is created from surfer to surfer. Excellent capture of light and contrast. Odd and special picture. The choice of B&W is fine.

I really like the B&W Richard, mostly because I am a huge fan of it. To me it seems you can get so much more detail in this medium. Your notes however have provoked some thinking. I had not considered the “field Photo” thing before. Now I have to think about this and consider it, especially in my upcoming adventure. This will give me quite the challenge… cool. My primary goal will be to capture images that reflect the history; age I have never seen, I will also keep in mind that I don’t want images that everyone else has. Your image is a really good example it show the land the terrain and the idea. I quite like that you have accomplished what you set out to do.
Warm Regards

Hello Richard
Your choice of making it b&w was a wise one.
The reflections on the water looking like silver really does a lot to the photo and those silhouettes.
Beautiful shot.

Richard "I lack the vocabulary to articulate my thoughts properly" thats why a picture is worth a thousand words, you don't have to explain.
The photo and Title you chose says it all.
B&W works so well, detail and POV really do set a tone for this.

I agree Richard. I have lots of pictures in bali, but they are just nice even some of them are good because its been done lots of time by lots of photographers. But this one is not like that :)

I wonder what this would have looked like in color! I'm partial to color in places like Bali! But I love the textures of the sand, and of course, color would distract from that! Maybe Mrs. Arab will pay for me to go too, so I can show you how to do it! HAHAHAHAHA!............not!
Have a great Sunday!
