Whatever the religions may be, I always find the worshiping places fascinating, for they relfect the essence and the particularities of each civilization that is behind them.
Here is a small Shinto shrine.
Japan has two main "religions"; the so-called autochthonous Shinto (some kind of animist religion) and the buddhism brought from China.
Note that Christianism is well represented also, but is considered a minor religion here.
Back to the picture, I here tried to point out the fact that Shinto prevails harmony between Nature and Men. Traditional buildings are made of wood and roofs are made of thatch. Some national shrines will be incredibly huge, but in general the smaller ones in the countryside will remain at human scale.
in my composition, I attempted to gather some basic elements: stone, wood, earth (trees) and air (sky).
