Short reportage at the Tokyo Game Show 2009.
This annual event is the must-go for video game addicts, but there is also a sub-event that attracts as many or even more people: cosplaying. Cosplaying is the art of performing your video game idol by wearing a home-made repliqua of the original costume. Many amateur photographers even come only for this and do not even look at the games!

I decided to "play the game" myself and tried to take protraits of some cosplayers. It is in fact much more difficult than I thought because there are so many people that you are always jostling and bumping inot each other. Most of my shots turned into nothing else but motion blur, unwanted half body or face and so on.
In the next days I will post some more that were not too much altered.

Cosplay is an intriguing (to me) pasttime, to the outsider it seems quite quirky but I can imagine that to those involved it can be very serious.

Construction of this shot is ok but it feels as if you were undecided whether to include their feet or not! Cropping at the ankles is seldom a good idea: either include their feet, or crop the shot at mid-thigh for a 3/4 portrait.

Those hands holding up the background board are a crazy touch ...!

Good Photographer's Note.

Bonjour Damien
