| If you were lucky, and the girl liked you and you had a few dollars, then after she was done at work in the bar, you could walk this girl [or her many counterparts] home. Then in the morning, as you awoke she would be looking in the room after having started the fire in the single coal stove that heated the house and maybe even make you breakfast. A benefit of your hours spent in AP Alley buying her watered down drinks. |

Thomas,
I love the naturalism of this shot (the fact that she has "bed head" hair), and its intimacy (her pyjamas and her expression). The DOF is nice too, blurring out the background but keeping your subject in fairly sharp focus. You had a keen eye (and presumably still do).
I've only just discovered your series now, but went back to review them. I will likely make further individual critiques, but let me say now how wonderful I think it is that you're posting these. They are beautiful and they bring alive a period and place that most of us never experienced (and of course never will again).
I hope you don't mind that I've added your old photos to a theme I created some time ago À la recherche du temps perdu, which is intended as a catalogue of old images or ones that evoke the past.
Thanks for the great tour, and I hope it continues for a while to come.
Lee
P.S. Were you in fact in signal intelligence as your nic implies? Just curious.
wow. Great note with the photo. The photo is excellent as well. Great composition and lighting. Her hair shows that it is early morning and she has just awoke. Great smile and expression. JP
It is really a great picture.
You photos are in general, full of humanity.
The composition near the door is very good.
The backlight is enhancing the hairs of the lady.
A lot of emotion.
