[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
I'm nearing the end on my series of "AP Alley" and its activities. Many of the people who went there did so to have a couple of drinks as they went on break. Most of these people worked a hellish shift of three days each of "days" [7 AM to 4 PM], "swings" [4 PM to midnight], and "mids" [midnight to 7 AM]. Their jobs were stressful and after a month or two of this cycle they barely knew what century they were in. To celebrate their three day break after their last "mids" they usually went to the Alley and had a few [sometimes more ] drinks. While for the younger single men, they often found a chance to have an "intimate" relationship, some of the girls who worked there were not available for anything but talk and companionship and often formed close relations and became friends with some of the men who spent their two years at Misawa away from their family.

Here is a person I learned later is now dead. He was by all accounts a faithful family man and I just happened to catch him showing pictures of his wife and kids to his lady friend. Just part of the complex social mechanism called "AP Alley".

i enjoyed this series of old photos very much and also learned a lot from them :) you hav very good human touch in these photos Thomas, its also sad to learn that some of these people in your photos are no longer around...but we can still see them in your work :)

awesome -- a great catch of quite a moment. She has a pretty face and he sorta' looks like a young George C. Scott, circa "Dr. Strangelove" years. regards, ck
