Darn! Back to AP Alley again as I find more pictures in my collection.

Here we have a child who remains behind while her father returns to the USA and probably his family. This is as old a story as conquering armies.

I found the girls working in the Alley and the GIs were usually extra kind to such children. Still, as in Vietnam, being a "love child" of a foreigner resulted in especially hellish treatment from their fellow students, and probably even more so if the child is from a black American.

The Americans naively believe they have a corner on being prejudiced. Believe me, we could take lessons in cruelty and stupidity from many of the 30 countries I have visited.

I do wonder what happened to this child.

Wow. Very nice portrait. Love the glossy eyes and expression. Very nice. Good note too. JP

I wonder too. She is a very pretty child. Good portrait shot of her.

What a lovely child. I hope she has a good life somewhere. So much innocence and trust in those big eyes. I love the framing and the tilt of the head.

beautiful, beautiful, beautiful and thank you for the informative note. I think that this could benefit from some sharpening.

Hi Thomas, A wonderful portrait and a very strong note. My gosh with all the magnificent pictures you have from the sixties there could be a wonderful book there on all the different aspects of life you have photographed there.

You are an incredible photographer.

Marleen

great note and so accurate, as I well know from many, many in-depth interviews and conversations with immigrants/political asylum seekers here in the good 'ol USA. I have one friend whose mother was Vietnamese and whose father was a black GI from the States: she related to me how her mother had "throwed her away," literally, into a trash can. A marvel of survival is this young woman, with a story that's far too long to relate here -- one that, I'm sure, you're entirely too familiar with. Wonderful post and cool pic. Thanks for posting. regards, ck

Beautifully captured & interesting note. I always find my heart drawn to "half-breeds" since I am one myself. :)

-agk.

This is a very expressive and strong portrait. Pretty sad. Take care.
