[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
This girl worked in a place called AP Alley. It was an alley with many bars and even a tea shop and grocery store. The girls who worked here were quasi-prostitutes. They didn't sleep with just anyone. They had to like their customer. Many lived with servicemen who paid a relatively small amount to share the girl's house which they preferred to the barracks.

As is evident, the job could take its emotional toll.

This quasi-illegal world of bar girls and such is called "mizu shobai" which means "water world" and refers to this sub-culture of Japanese life.

I like this photo. It has a great sad mood to it. Nice lighting too although I wish her face was a little more lit up. Very good composition too. Nice job. JP

I like these old photos and I am grateful that you share them with us with these informative notes..
This one is also a great picture.. I can feel her unfortunate life and broken heart from her posing.. I am sorry she "had" to live so hard..

So many details which I really love: light coming from down, her pose and the rounded light and the whole composition.
