[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
Close-up of a visitor in the Kyoto Imperial Palace.
The weathered wooden beams are part of the floor and date from 1855, the last time when the Palace had to be rebuilt after a devastating fire. Pretty much all the building material is of vegetal origin and therefore fires were a major threat. As a consequence, all the cooking was done out in the open, at a safe distance from the buildings. The lighting was provided by torches placed outside, having their light reflected inside by the white gravel covering the ground.

Very nice compo and very creative cropping..

Very good geometry and contrast; visual impact photo!

Hello Roland,
I like the details you caught on this nice specie. I think that the BG is not the most esthetic one but we don't necessarily choose these things, especially with nature's shots. You got a nice POV and exposure is good too. I would have tried, if possible, to compose it with more space before the butterfly but it is still interesting this way. Thanks,
Claudine

Hi Roland,
nice capture! Good POV! It seems that your visitor is a little dizzy :) falling down. Very nice colours and details. Welcome on TL!

Regards.
Ioana

Interesting shot, Roly - I like the background in this, the two-tone effect from the brown and white makes an unusual backdrop to a butterfly shot. They are normally shown on pretty flowers and leaves.

Good one.

Roland,
I am presently in Japan and have yet to see my first insect here!
Good capture and as Richard said, different BG than I am used to but the white makes him stand out pretty well...
Scott

hi roland, thanks for yourt comment on my Colony Farm Winter Sunset shot. I actually prefer this site than TE, i have lots under the name "excited" on that sire, please view, but i find there are way more comments on this sire, and i am really into macro these days, thanks scott
