[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
I took this photo at the Ueno Zoo. I asked his mother if it would be okay to take a few photos of him and she told him to look at the camera and pose for me. He was a natural. I always like taking photos of children because they usually don't give fake smiles or poses.
They are innocent and natural. I thanked the mother and showed her the photo's (I took 6 or 7).
The slight language barrier prevented me from trying to get a model release or her email address to email the photo's to her. I would like to think she would enjoy them. I liked the eye contact, the tilted head and the Western clothing. I have noticed that much of Japan is being "Westernized", mainly the younger generation. I titled the photo to keep in line with my "Young Japan" concept that I featured earlier this year on my first visit to Tokyo.

With Photoshop CS3:
I removed some blemishes and a mole from his face with the patch tool, slightly saturated and sharpened and cropped out some unnecessary space to achieve a tighter framed photo.

Quel beau petit bonhomme et la façon dont la photo a été prise, les couleurs sont magnifiques
bravo Guylaine

Hi Scott...I think the quality of the camera and lens is very evident here. As well, of course, as your photographic talent :-)

I like the tilt and the bold colours balancing each other - the red and green on opposite diagonals is very appealling and the eye contact is excellent. Wonderful expression on his wee face as well. Very good portrait.

ha ha ...
Very cute genration GAP , I dont mind having soooo cute genartion.
Very well cropped and beautifully presented.

Hello Scott!

Still having fun in Japan ? Great to see you on-line again !
Indeed it is a great portrait . The tilted image is just perfect. Smart composition.

Added yours to my favorite Smiles of Children of the world.

PS. Maybe it would be a great idea to print a few ''business cards'' with your Treklens page address and give those to the people you shoot, as an invitation to view their images on line.

It could be printed in convenient languages. Beside English on one side, the flip side could be translated to the spoken language of the country you are visiting . Obviously , you would need the help of a good translater ( and keyboard ) for Japan !

Cheers!
Robert

Excellent portrait - very honest, very real, very nicely delivered. Good use of light, very good catchlights in his eyes. Amazingly clear and crisp.
Great work!

This is FANTASTIC!!! He is beautiful and I love the expression and eye contact. Wonderful colors and detail. I'm adding this to my favorites. An EXCELLENT portrait!! TFS

A very winsome photo, Scott (and that's not even counting the patch of my favorite New England baseball team :) As you say, he's a natural. I like the smile, too, and both the angle of the portrait and the nice control of the depth of field make it a fine piece of work.

Hi Buddy,

You nailed this one perfectly. A perfect 10!!

Scott

Hi Scott, Looks like a little Boston Red Sox fan to me! I could just "eat him up" he's so cute! Charming smile, sweet eyes, and the pose is a natural.

I also love to photograph children and working in a school gives me plenty of opportunity since my sons are 17 and 19!

Awesome job! Lisa

A good simple portrait Scott. natural pose from the wee lad and good colours and skin tone and well cropped.

I like the tilt here, Scott, which along with his thoughtful expression really makes the shot. His clothing adds a nice contrast with the backdrop and his skin, f2.8 provides a lovely shallow DoF. Sharpness spot on.
A few nit-picks, though: the bright thing "coming out of his ear" (the buggy's handle bar, I guess?) might have had a burn brush treating, or might even have been cloned out completely. Also, there's a bright spot under his left eye (right in the shot), which should have been removed.
Apart from that, I bet his mother would like to have this portrait in a large print ;o)
TFS

Lovely portrait and use of angle. The soft natural lighting captures his expression so well.
