Hi Hans,
Great capture! Journalistic composition. I like the mood. All is perfect. Thanks

Hiya Hansie
Well this image is superb, the POV and the whole setting is great, I have to be honest and say I prefer the workshop though. The reason for this is that the B/W works well but the colours are so similar the grey tones dont vary enough. To explain better I would say that maybe with the de sat the contrast could do with being increased slightly. People might miss what is a stunning image as the gallery does not do it justice. Another idea would be to frame both the colour and the B/W version side by side for comparison.
So to sum up.. i personally think the image is excellent but a slight increase in contrast might make it more striking as a thumbnail and more noticeable.
Hope that all made sense as smurfie talk is sometimes hard to get to grips with.
TFS kind regards Smurfie

Hi Hans, great portrait of this monk walking without looking at you and his umbrella.
You show us how serious they can be.
Well done on the b/w conversion.
Take care, Yan :)
ps: and many thx for the kind words in : "Dedicated to TL Friends!". I am very pleased that you like it.
A very big thanks from " Little Jan who likes black and white "
but you can call me " Tjoe-tjoe " ...
LOL !
Sorry, in fact this is an, old, joke that I adapted just now. Hmm ...
( and I like my own jokes ... )
Well I compared the WS and the B/W-one.
They're both telling, a " different ", story.
In the WS our first attention goes to the colours, we see a walking monk.
In fact, the WS is a beautiful representation of a monk that I already have in my head.
If you look at the B/W-one, the eye catcher
( orange dress ) is gone, you will/must look at the basics ( ? ).
Such are the focus ( eg the face ), the shape or lines, the movement, ...
In my opinion, this photo doesn't need colour : it's all about the monk.
Those who disagree : don't panic, whitin a couple of years you'll agree !
( I'm also " full " of myself ... :-p )
So, he's going down hill to buy a pack of sigarettes
You can clearly see the expression on his face : " I'm empty ! ( hands )
Will I go for light or the real stuff ? "
Just an interpretation of a ( forever ) B/W lover ...
Thanks for reading this - between the lines.
See you,
Tjoe-tjoe

A buddist monk! Very nice shot here Hans! I'm not sure about the BW! Usually the colors are the main grab with these monks! the orange is so beautiful! But this is a great action shot! B-)

Hello Hans...
I really like both of your photos so I did a little WS to show how my mind brings them together! This is a wonderful day in the life shot! Very nice and crisp...

Nou Hans, ik ga ook voor de kleurenversie. Is in dit geval veel mooier, met die verzadigde kleur.
Gewoon een erg mooie plaat.
groeten,
Joop!

Wonderful moody image and the B&W allows us to concentrate on his expression instead of the bright coloured clothes
Superb work

ok.. Usually I'm a big fan of b/w pictures Hans, but I really do believe that this image is not suitable to convert to b/w.
Simply because the contrast is too shallow and of course because it's very pitty NOT to show the lovely orange colors of the monk's robe...
Besides, if you look at the color version it really shows more sharpness. That's the problem of the shallow contrast. Converted to b/w it simply looks less sharp...
In a funny way the stones in the wall behind the monk look unreal... unnatural...
hmm... so maybe better luck next time??
Cheers,
Anneke

Good evening Hans.
Beautiful B&W presentation of that monk who used to be more colorful in his safran robe. I like the color version too. Very sharp detail maybe too much sharpening on the stone wall in my point of view.
Thanks for sharing a little slice of Laos

Groeten,
Niek
