[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
Silhouette of a Buddha statue, at the Pak Ou Caves on the Mekong River. ('Ou' is Lao for mouth - the Pak River joins the Mekong across the river from here). There are thousands of Buddha images & statues within this cliffside cave, overlooking the Mekong.

I think this is Buddha in the 'Mara', or conquering evil position. When I asked what this was, a familiar story was told about the devil approaching Buddha, & offering untold wordly power & riches, if the Buddha submitted to the devil. The Buddha declined. This sounds like a very similar story, to the temptation of Jesus Christ & Mohammed, both of whom also rejected Satans' temptations.

Hi Chris,
Nice, creative photo. The story you relate in the note is correct. However, there is more to it. The sory goes on to say that after Budda rejected Mara's power and riches, he sent his three beautiful daughters, to temp Budda and according to the story, they were rejected too!

Very good POV and use of natural framing, and a good control of DOF too. Th BG and FG are out of focus and the statue is so sharp. Excellent work and a good note too. TFS

a very original image, nice comp, intriguing, thanx, M, (*_*)

second silhouette I see today and religious one again ;))
Well done Chris

A well composed detail shot Chris! The graphic appeal together with the perfect sharpness and dof looks really great.

Nice straight statue; elegant, wise and in hopeful gesture.
The lookthrough makes it pointing out.
Good seen Chris.
Huub

Very nice capture, very good selective focusing and composition.

Hi Chris,
very interesting photo. Very unusual and interesting idea of making two silhouettes of which one is blurred, another sharp. This gives sense of 3D space. I like the natural framing done by foreground silhouette to the photo. tfs

Hi Chris,
Nicely done.
I like the POV and the use of a natural frame.
Well done :)

It's pratically an abstract shot! I enjoy it very much! There is a mystic mood on that compo!

HI Chris, the statue itself is strong and sharp, so well portrayed with the cave walls that are soft and blurred. An excellent capture, and especially with the statue placed so well in the gap. Good job, thank you.
