Life on a sandbar, isolated and away from the maddening crowd.

This was shot at Santubong area. It was a hot day but as we arrived at the beach, it started to rain. The sky was heavily overcast and it was hazy and humid. I used the polarizer and found that it showed faded color tone under overcast hazy sky, and some corner vignette. The mud bank and muddy water at this location where Sarawak River meets the South China Sea gives a faded look as if this is 20 year old slide film? Malaysian afternoon light is always very harsh and difficult to handle in photography.

As it happened, the tide was dropping and one of 2 fishermen busy at work on the sandy bar gave me a target to shoot the lazy scenery. They were checking the net. Most villagers here do some fishing for a living. At the foreground small dots of mangrove roots sticking out of the mud to breathe. The haziness of the scenery appeared to be like water color painting but the fisherman was as what the eye can see with bright color tone in contrast.

Rain or shine, some of you in Northern Hemisphere may prefer this weather than the cold winter.

Hello Bill,

Well, we have been having some sunny but cold weather recently, which is a pleasant change from the rain.

I love this shot!
The horizontal layers of colour, which fade into the distance, make a very attractive composition.
The lone fisherman is perfectly positioned in the frame.

Kind regards,
Bev :-)

Hello Bill, good composition with the man at the edge of the sand bar. I love the colors but the vignetting is a bit strange and distracting. Well done anyway!
