[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
It is often pictures and scenes like this which reminds me of hardship and rural lifestyle that I too often forget or ignore. So it is with a reminder to myself that there are too many people out there living life that our ancestors went through, like taking a bath at the river and using river water for cooking or drinking. Probably walking the distance to the river itself is a good daily exercise of the mind, soul and body. Too often I tend to forget and take for granted the ease of tapped water at home; lazy to even take a shower or wash dishes or glasses! I decided to convert this to sepia for a yesterday-look resembling not too long years ago that my parents were doing the same thing like this. No, I prefer to remind myself of my roots. That is why I never bother to spend money to renovate my 25-year-old house in Kuching, nor 15-year-old house in Sibu, although all my neighbors had already done them up beautifully. Am I not crazy?

Hello Bil
Excelent daily life capture, very well composed, with a superb sepia work giving a great «timeless» flavour and mood to the photo.
Best regards, mb

Hi Bill,
Really like this idea! Although a nasty OE spot a fine picture of the daily life at the river, well exposed in sepia. The white frame is appropiate too. Fine posting my friend.

HI Bill...I agree perspective is worth keeping...there is never that must distance between the people that are fortunate and those that are not...we need to always keep that in mind...nice shot.

Hi Bill,
A real beauty, and excellent choice of colour tone, which makes it look older. Like your note too.

This could be also in the 130s or whatever Bill, the bw makes it historic and timeless in a timeless landscape.

Hi Bill,

Your decision on your houses are right and people do have their own preferences. I don't have neighbor close by so I don't really need to keep up with them.

This is a nice sepia shot of a familiar place. Lighting and subject placement is very good. I would like to see your post with D700 set at b+w and not a conversion. I guess it will come out well on digital.

Jusni

Hello Bill,

I'm reading a personal account now of a Peace Corps worker who taught in China for a couple years. Many of his students are peasants who were fortunate enough to win an opportunity for scholarships to attend school.

I'm not always convinced that our lives are so much happier with all of our conveniences, although when I go camping I certainly appreciate those aspects of my life much much more and I think that drinking from river water, unless it was thoroughly boiled, could be dangerous.

take care,

Richard

very good conversion to sepia and effective on reminiscing the past. ;-)
