Panning - Motorbike!
 |
|
| [Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note |
Hi, I was in Johor Bahru last weekend for a short holiday..and i took this photo at the main road of the JB City Square Complex.
I heard about this "panning" technique from a friend last time, but not really understand what is it about. And wacthing a lot of motorbikes passing by, i suddenly came up with the idea to try this panning shot.
Panning is a technique where the camera is moved to follow a moving subject. It produces a relatively sharp subject seen against a blurred background and can be very effective in giving an impression of movement and speed.
This is what i did :
1. Set my camera to Aperture Priority Mode, with f/5.6
2. Wait for the moving bike...
3. Ok.. press the shutter.. and move/swing the camera with my hand, follow the direction/movement of the bike... (try to keep the bike in the centre or same position in the viewfinder/LCD screen.
I am not sure if this is the correct way to do it..just experimental more..practise more, and its a quite fun technique to play with..
This is the original photo. I just resized and added some borders.
Comments, Critiques and Workshops are welcomed.

Maybe a tighter crop on the main subject would be nicer. But then it's a good pic with a good note. Well done!
first, clear note...u look quite silly at that time :)( swinging your camera in the busy streets) but i guess it's worth it coz it looks good....personally, i think it should not be so close up...i'd like to see more surroundings to have more balance...good shot!

I really like the motion effect in this one.

You got it on the first try! Excellent. I tried to do it a few times but my hands don't move the camera perfectly horizontal, so everything comes out blur.
Wow, it's very effective! I like these kind of photos very much. I think, it's difficult to swing the camera on the right way and speed. You made a good job!
