This is my dog Robert
I was trying to figure out how to take a nice picture of him without overexposing as the hall where he's sitting at is very dark.
If you aim the flash unit directly then all you get is an overexposed doggie. However, if you aim the flash to the ceiling and let the light bounce off it will not be bright enough and you have to open up the aperture, lower shutter speed or increase ISO.
No, I don't wanna do that. What I did is to aim the flash unit at an angle of about 45 degree away from Robert. As you can see from the picture, the area around his head is brighter than the bottom half of the picture.
Not perfect but at least there is no over or underexposed picture.

it is fascinating to read your note, i did not realised there are so many details about flashes:) very nice shot, Yah Wen, and i like the way your dog sits, very funny and his expression is cute too. that green glow from the eyes is a a little scary though.
Cute dog, he looks comfortable on the cool tile floor.
great technical explanation for he usage of flash..! tfs.. and your dogs seems very camera-friendly... and what a name.. Robert H.Johnson???? hahaha...
