[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
During Gawai Festival holidays at Kampung Sabauh, as we approached the Mabi waterfall's upper catchment area, some dragonflies were found. This one has a black head/wings, a blue body and red tail combination of color. The sun was hot and I had to wade around the stream waiting to catch some of these insects. Without a good macro lens, I had to stay close to the subject to get a macro view and often times it scares them away. Thus the waiting game is played. But shooting dragonfly as a still subject is not very difficult when you preset your exposure and focus on the head or body, as long as you get the right composition which is more challenging task. Unless you have a good macro or zoom lens, staying close to the subject is a sensitive game.

This is my first time to notice that the front legs of the dragonfly hook onto the stem, while the hind legs simply clamp on. How many pair of legs do you see?

Some of TLers gave critiques that they prefer to see the headshot, so this one is head on. After the shooting session, a dip into the waterfall's pool to cool off the heat and drinking the spring water is really nice thing to do. Very clean water from this stream, it stays clear even after a day in the plastic bottle, not suspended particles visible by naked eye. Thank you for viewing.

Hello Bill.
Perfect macro shot of the dragonfly.
Beautiful 'leggs' she got, but her stockings seems to be tricky.
Always wondering how many different species there are, al with different colours. Nice and friendly 'insects'.
Regards from Jan

Colorful, sharp, great details Bill.

Hi Bill,
We can use that colors for a flag. I don't know which country uses those 3 colors, but it could be their mascotte. ;-)
Superb macro !! Great sharpness, dof and background. Good note too! TFS.

hi Bill
great macro shot of dragonfly.Great details.Beautiful blur BG.Well done.TFS.Necla.

Hi Bill,

Beautiful shot of this dragonfly specimen. Colours are well exposed and sharpness is crisp. I see four legs, two upfront hooking the twig as you mentioned and one rear leg clamping on it. The other rear leg is most visible is actually holding onto what seems to be like a spiderweb's thread.

TFS.

Alvin

Hi Bill,
The dragonfly is well presented with effective uncluttered background. I admire your patience in chasing this insect. Best regards, Danilo
