[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
This is my first successful shot of a dragonfly. Forgive me for not knowing the name of this specimen but it really did me a favour by not moving at all while I approached it slowly through the bushes.

I needed to get close enough to it so as not to push my kit lens too hard on focusing. I actually got within 1 feet of it and still it did not move nor fly away. I took several shots of it from various angles and stepped back. Only then it flew away. Thanks for the pose Mr Dragonfly.

Regards,
Alvin

hi Alvin

The color contrast looks very strong and saturated here, perhaps it is after a rain? Good sharpness and focus on the subject and a muted BG, although you could not avoid the green leaves totally. I have yet to see this type of yellow dragonfly.

tfs, bill

Hi Alvin,
Congratulations. I know how does it feel to successfully hit a nice shot of dragonfly - especially the earlier attempts.

I believe you had visited our friends' collection of dragonfly shots here in TL. Sharing with you a tip: minimalism is one of the key to give an impact to a dragonfly (and to any other macro) shot - keep it as simple as possible; less elements that could possibly create a distraction. You will, my friend.

As for this shot, you have a good sharpness and clarity. I can see details of the wings. Imagine - if you have just the dragonfly and the plant where it is perching. The rest is just a plain, muted background... you will get it. Keep on shooting.

Regards,
Ramdan.

Hi Alvin,

Thanks for viewing my Well Done!

Hello Alvin. This is amazing with sharp detail and excellent contrast of the dragonfly. Well lit and excellent perch and you have silenced the background really well. A bigger crop on the left will give the room for the d-fly to take off and tighter crop at the back. Brilliant use of this favorite lens of mine and thanks for sharing. Best regards. Jusni

Alvin,
This is real good Macro shot. The details in the dragonfly are excellent as is the color. The shot is very well composed and the blurred BG looks great. The image is very sharp. One of my favorites in your gallery. Nice work Alvin.

Kevin
