[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
Magunatip Dance, also known as Bamboo Dance is a traditional dance of Kadazandusun and Murut ethnic. The dance involves jumping steps and the dance is a display of the skill of the dancers that maneuver their feet in and out so as not to get their feet trapped by the bamboo. The 2 bamboo poles are usually approximately 6 feet long and are held by 2 dancers that beat them together and over a shorter length of wood or bamboo creating an interesting rhythm.

A skillful dancer would possibly attest their ability with an extra set of bamboo poles to hop through. A faster tempo will further display the dancers’ skill.

I opted a setup of high ISO, widest possible aperture and slow shutter speed (devoid of needed flash gun) to capture the dynamism of this Magunatip Dance. I had also made pole position among fellow shooters to capture this image.

Happy Shooting,
Ramdan

Assalammualaikum Ramdan,
As I was there too, this would be one of the better photos depicting the performance. The low angle you took for this work, expresses the facial expression and gestures of the lead dancer and the environment he was in. Your work is descriptive enough to show and tell the content of this work.

Your choice of exposure is also thoughtful. All photographers must be that. Thoughtful and always being aware of the scene he is in and translate the understanding to the exposure setting of his gear.

Keep at it Ram. Beside in keeping with your quality post and notes, you too need to be concern and constructive with your comments and critiques. It goes a long way with much weight ,much further than the amount of smileys you get in return.
Always remember it is not what you get in return, but what you give that count for much.

To me, it is an honor to write this much as your work is worth to me than just a green smiley.

Regards
Rabani

Hi Ramdan,

You are very lucky to be able to get a good position for capturing this dance. I always find it difficult to capture the motion of this dance while still maintaining an overall presentable clarity. Your choice in your camera setting is spot on for your purpose of capturing the dynamic motion of the dance while still maintaining picture clarity. Respect...

TFS.

Regards,
Alvin

hi Ramdan

It cannot get more ethnic than this cultural dance with full costume, to show what you have in Sabah, for the world to compare the difference.

Hello Bamdan.
Great action shot of the bamboo dancer.!
The low shutter time gives it a good movement.
Well done.

Salam Bro,
